CNN: Sharpton ends presidential race
Edited on Mon Mar-15-04 03:40 PM by NewJerseyDem
He will officially endorse Kerry.

EDIT: Sharpton endorses Kerry, but will not drop out in order to collect delegates to bring to the convention.

1. I proudly voted for Sharpton
Don't necessarily support him because he can't win in November, but I voted for him here in TX because I very much like what he has to say, baggage and all notwitstanding. I'm a Kerry delegate to our Senatorial Convention.

I'd love to see him as Kerry's Press Secretary;
Al would eat the press alive!

2. Thanks, Al!
He brought some needed ideas to the campaign. Could you see one of the "front runners" calling Chimpy a "Liar" on national TV?
He said things that needed saying.

3. More info...
...breaking, and finally official; the news apparently came through a Kerry campaign release that announces that Sharpton has dropped out and is now endorsing Kerry.

Per "I Love Candy" Crowley on CNN; will post link...

9. Dennis Kucinich, HOPEFULLY, will figure prominently in Kerry's Cabinet,
Unless, of course, we need him as a leader in the House, to safeguard our numbers in there (which I suspect may go up in November).

Bless Kucinich. A lot of West L.A. still loves him, judging from the little signs poked into the dirt, and the bumper stickers I see around me. He's a heart. I'm glad it's OUR party that produces and boasts people who think like him.

5. UPDATE: Sharpton not actually dropping out
Candy Crowley just reported on CNN that Sharpton is NOT dropping out of the race; he intends to stay in the race in order to gather more delegates, but is endorsing Kerry nonetheless.

Vote for me! I need delegates! No, wait... vote for Kerry, because I endorsed him! But vote for me, too!!

WTF????

7. How bout
vote for me and I will turn my delegates over to Kerry at the convention? :-) I can see his point. He wants a "voice" at the convention.

8. Sure, except he didn't say that...
... and what's the power in his delegate numbers if he vows to turn them over to Kerry anyway? Why not just vote for Kerry?

I just think he's speaking out of both sides of his mouth. I'd rather see the DNC offer him a keynote speech, and be done with it already.

11. Keynote speech may go to Kucinich
He's still in the race and trying trying to gather delegates, too. It's a large tent, there should be room for everyone.

13. I would like to see Al Sharpton
become City Manager of Newburgh, NY.
The position is open, and new leadership is desperately needed.

14. I loved Al give his synopsis on gay marriage
Bush is worried about what people do when they go to bed at night when he should be worried about if they have a job in the morning.

:kick: :dem: Thank you Al Sharpton for speaking up for what is right!

Kerry 04!

15. I only wish JFK would heed what Al said about this
The whole point is government should stay out of folks' bedrooms. They are already picking our pockets....job or no job...

16. He had a wonderful run
Primary season is just such a difficult....I had supported Edwards for so long and when he dropped out on Super Tuesday I just bawled my brains out...but Sharpton's decision is ultamately a smart one.

Looking back before Kerry became the front runner (the Dean days - have taped several things claiming Dean most likely nominee), it's interesting to see how things turn out and change.
