Germany to boost Afghan forces

Chancellor Angela Merkel says Germany plans to increase its military commitment to Afghanistan by sending 500 extra troops.

Germany currently has 4,300 soldiers in the country - the third-largest foreign contingent after the US and UK.

The extra deployment will need parliamentary approval. German MPs are due to debate the issue on Wednesday.

Mrs Merkel also said she wanted Afghanistan to handle its own security by 2014, Reuters reported.

1. I ask myself ... why? Then it comes to me....

500 guys. The Germans are just "blooding" their career professional military officers and NCO's.

They get a little combat experience and keep their hand in the military biz.

2. A "President" Mccain would have never convinced Germany to "send more troops"

However, President Obama has credibility and the trust of the European people.
