Less than half of US would vote to return Bush to White House: poll
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20030730/pl_afp/us_politics_poll

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Less than half of Americans surveyed -- only 47 percent -- would vote for President George W. Bush (news - web sites) in the 2004 election, according to a Gallup/CNN/USA Today poll published.

Some 41 percent of those polled said they would vote for the yet-to-be-chosen Democratic candidate. There are nine Democrats vying for their party's nomination.

The dip below the key 50 percent mark is "a sign that this thing's not done," political analyst Charles Cook told USA Today.

The level of support for Bush was surprising, considering the same poll found that 58 percent approve of the job he is doing in office. According to USA Today, former presidents Ronald Reagan (news - web sites) and Bill Clinton (news - web sites) did not see significant differences between their approval ratings and election support.

The poll questioned 1,698 people between July 18 and 20 and July 25 and 27. The margin of error was two percent.

5. 47% was what he got in 2000
Of course he got 56% of the Supreme Court vote which is obviously more important.

6. And I am one that won't vote for him either!!!!
Hey....I think this poll has been the true calling for the last
two years. It's just that the pollsters, through fear of retribution,
have dressed the polls up to make the psychopath look good.

7. Bush was just awful speaking today. No comprehension

of Economic problems, no focus on War issues. You could have
pulled somebody off the loading dock that would have sounded better.
I found myself feeling sorry for him.

...don't waste the neurons. Even his appearance is calculated to stir some emotion, since reason obviously isn't important to someone "running" our country.

10. He was so smirky and condescending
I stopped watching him. Everytime I see him I get so mad. I have never LOATHED anyone in public office like I loath him.

I'm looking forward to his lame duck presidency.

8. I think this graf is pretty revealing
The level of support for Bush was surprising, considering the same poll found that 58 percent approve of the job he is doing in office. According to USA Today, former presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton did not see significant differences between their approval ratings and election support.

BTW, the second part of this poll was done after the deaths of Saddam's sons so that may have given Bush a small boost. The numbers might actually be closer. Still, they are encouraging. We have a long way to go but there is light at the end of the tunnel!

17. "re-election" I have a problem with that term. It is a lie
re-selection or elected for first time maybe but he was never elected in the first place. And by Dems I believe you mean DLCers.

because he said yesterday on his show that Bush's Gallup ratings were high. Boy, did that give me a lot of satisfaction. I can't stand Hannity. :D
