Fox News: Kerry Responsible for 9/11
I don't have a link yet, but Fox News just claimed, quoting the New York Post, that John Kerry was responsible for 9/11. Apparently somebody forwarded information to John Kerry's office, three months before 9/11, that indicated security lapses at Logan International. Kerry promptly forwarded those warnings to the Department of Transportation, when he "should have known" that Bush's people at DoT were incompetent and unlikely to do anything in response. Had Kerry taken proper action, 9/11 would never have occured.

Ah, the Murdoch Press...

9/11: Bush Knew
A collection of compelling articles, which refute, or, at the very least, call into question, the assertions that Bush and his administration had no prior knowledge of events that would lead to the 9-11 tragedy.

seems like some guy who worked at the airport had been contacting Kerry about the dismal security at login and Kerry didn't give the matter the attention the shistleblower thought was necessary.

ON EDIT...he didn't work for the airport but for whatever agency governed airport security at the time. recently retired out of frustration, if you wabt to believe his story.

11. Here's the Article
Fox News was referring to this article in yesterday's NY Post. These guys are ridiculous.

March 15, 2004 -- SEN. John Kerry boasts how he "sounded the alarm on terrorism years before 9/ 11," referring to his 1997 book "The New War." Too bad he didn't blast it when it really counted - four months before the hijackings, when he was hand-delivered evidence of serious security breaches at Logan International Airport, with specific warnings that terrorists could exploit them.

Former FAA security officials say the Massachusetts senator had the power to prevent at least the Boston hijackings and save the World Trade Center and thousands of lives, yet he failed to take effective action after they gave him a prophetic warning that his state's main airport was vulnerable to multiple hijackings.

"He just did the Pontius Pilate thing and passed the buck" on back through the federal bureaucracy, said Brian Sullivan, a retired FAA special agent from the Boston area who in May 2001 personally warned Kerry that Logan was ripe for a "jihad" suicide operation possibly involving "a coordinated attack."

46. The article asks: "Where was Kerry's sense of urgency? Where was his...
...leadership? These are fair questions to ask of someone vying for Bush's job."

Okay. So why don't we ask them of Bush then?

Where was his sense of urgency when the Clinton WH warned him that he'd spend more time on Al Qaeda and terrorism than anything else? Well, it was urgent enough to have it placed as priority number... well, it wasn't actually ON the DOJ's list of priorities before 9-11. Maybe it was #80, or #122.. I forget.

Where was his sense of urgency when the CIA (and other governments) gave him specific warnings that terrorists were planning on using planes as weapons and planning on a major, coordinated attack against U.S. targets? Well, I guess the 9-11 Commission can ask him about that... that is, if he has time in his busy schedule... and if he doesn't think the Presidential Daily Brief or everything else he does as President is too confidential for closed-door questioning by a commission he himself approved.

52. Kerry was simply following proper channels. Besides, the Hart-Rudman...
... Commission on terrorism already figured out how lax our security was. It was up to BUSH to do something about that. He was moving in the opposite direction (DOJ placing NO priority on terror, ignoring warnings from CIA and other governments, perhaps even, allegedly, calling off the dogs in investigations into Saudi terrorism, including Bin Laden).

Kerry, nor any other Congressperson, cannot be expected to lauch congressional investigations into every communication from a constituent, prompted by "TV stings" and such. He did not ignore it. He did just what someone in his position should have done... personal opinions from constituents, as to what THEY thought he should have done aside. Besides, there already had been extensive investigations of such security lapses by governmental agencies much more qualified.

What would they have had him do? Slap on his VietNam era gear and personally patrol Logan looking for "swarthy" men? Personally install stronger cockpit doors and locks on every airplane that landed at Logan.

Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 12:40 PM by juajen
ran with their investigation did the terrorists' work for them. Perhaps they should also be hauled before the 9/11 commission. I agree wholeheartedly that something should have been done; but, I doubt seriously if any other senator, given the same information, would have done any more than Kerry did. After all, at that time, he did not preside over this country.

115. That's funny,
because the 87 billion was approved anyway, so lack of funding can't be said to be the cause of any deaths in Iraq--unless 87 billion is insufficient, which would mean poor planning on the part of "whovever" requested that figure.

they were salivating in a Pavlovian way hoping the "mainstream" media would pick up on it.

The thing about the "warning" is it could have been said about every airport in the country that's big enough to have a 727 or bigger fly in or out.

Hell, the airport in Nassaua is big enough and close enough to accomplish in Miami what happened 9/11.

on the Michael Savage show on the car radio (captive audience). Kerry is responsible for 9/11!! He was warned, and did nothing! NOTHING! (I'm paraphrasing)

This was right after his "Logical Analysis" of the Spain election.
1. Are the Socialists and Al Quaeda in cahoots?
(or)
2. Are the Socialists just capitalizing on the dead bodies of their countrymen, as ALL Socialists have ALWAYS done?

I do hope he (and now Fox) has opened up a nice can of worms with this business of WHO was warned, and WHO did nothing. It ain't Kerry, as we already know.

That is, claim strength where you are weakest. It's a way to pre-empt and confuse issues you can lose on.

That's why oil companies sell 'caring about the environment.'
That's why * will be sold as 'strong on security and the economy.'

It's Everything is the Opposite World. Get used to it.

The Bush* neocons are screwed badly on 9/11 and they've hung their entire campaign and NYC convention on it. So they need to make all the charges against Kerry that he will make against them, first!

Next they will claim that Kerry ruined the economy and the Bill of Rights. It only makes sense...not. They've already tried to claim that Kerry prevented the troops from being well equipped. And Kerry put up a bill to allow reimbursement to families that had to buy body armor for their loved ones in Iraq since they weren't given any!!

Article by Sullivan, and about him.
( the retired FAA guy)
----------

Edit:

Here is the post..better over here anyway

Brian Sullivan ( the retired FAA guy they are using to smear Kerry)

http://www.freedomtocare.org/page213.htm

Read the whole thing....

and this:

Sullivan says Sen. Kerry responded to his letter and asked the

Department of Transportation's Inspector General look into the matter.

"I think Sen. Kerry did get it to the right people and they were

about to take action."

The FAA also responded, but in a way that left Sullivan unconvinced

that anything would happen anytime soon.
---------

Edit: in this article, written by Sullivan he blames DOT,FAA and the Airlines

-----------
An article from 9-12-2001
Sullivan is quoted but makes no mention of Kerry or blames Kerry one single time.

------------
9-14-01

http://www.seacoastonline.com/2001news/9_14_sb2.htm

Brian Sullivan, who retired in January as an FAA risk management specialist in the New England, said he warned federal authorities as early as May of security problems at Logan. He even suggested then that the airport was vulnerable to multiple hijackings.

"Think what the result would be of a coordinated attack which took down several domestic flights on the same day," Sullivan wrote in a letter to Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. "The problem is that with our current screening system, this is more than possible. We don't have to wait for a tragedy to occur to act."

Kerry's office said it took Sullivan's concerns seriously and sent his letter, along with a news video Sullivan had included, to the General Accounting Office for review.

The GAO did not "give us follow-up on that," said Kerry spokeswoman Kelly Benander.

66. So Sullivan reported it to Kerry AND the FAA hotline
As for vulnerability, the evidence available in the summer and fall of 2001 was voluminous. The Government Accounting Office, the DOT Office of the Inspector General and two presidential commissions clearly had detailed the shortcomings in our aviation-security system. These reports were available to the public — so much so that one such report was found by U.S. troops in an al-Qaeda cave in Afghanistan translated from its English version. The enemy was aware of our deficiencies in this regard and unfortunately appeared to be paying more attention than we were.

In addition, if we look at Boston's Logan International Airport, where it all began that fateful September morning, we see the Boston Globe having reported more than 136 security violations in 1999. That same year a teen-ager climbed the airport's perimeter barrier, boarded an aircraft and flew to England before being caught — not a great indicator of tough security.

In early May 2001, a local TV station conducted an undercover sting at the very same terminals and screening checkpoints exploited on 9/11. The results were dismal, with nine of 10 attempted penetrations being successful. That report was provided to the office of Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and to the FAA administrator's hotline. By all accounts, the vulnerability rating at Logan International Airport and at other major airports (including Washington Dulles and Newark International in New Jersey) across the nation had to be considered high.

When Kerry told them to 'Bring it on." I sincerely did not think they would be this completely stupid about it.

Saying Kerry is responsible for 9/11 because he "knew something about Logan airport security lapses." swings the door wide open for asking what Bush knew and when he knew it. They DO NOT WANT TO GO DOWN THAT ROAD!

This is good news for Kerry.

Edited to add: I worked security in airports in a previous life. Every airport in the country suffered from the lapses in security that Logan had on 9/11. Every airport in the nation is still wide open to security breaches to this day.

73. What security breaches?
As I recall, at the time box-cutters were not illegal nor considered a threat. The hijackers reportedly flew all the time, so I don't believe they existed in any "don't allow to fly" list.

It isn't like they were trying to smuggle a gun in or a huge knife.

So, how exactly, if Logan Airport followed all of the security procedures in place AT THE TIME... would any of this been prevented?

There are really three dramatic changes that have taken place since 9/11 that would have prevented this. Any of the three now would have prevented those attacks.

1. Enhanced screenings. Probably the LEAST effective in preventing another 9/11. Mistakes happen. Some items do get through, but MOST don't!

2. Re-enforced and locked cockpit doors. People will no longer be able to take control of the plane from the passenger section.

3. A change in the public awareness that would cause the passengers not to sit idly by while a plane is being threatened. This "procedure" actually changed DURING 9/11, when the passengers of one of the hijacked planes were informed what was happening. That plane may have been going down (and it did) but NOT where the hijackers wanted it to.

So, even knowing you could get a howitzer on an aircraft thorough Logan airport.... that simply didn't happen. They didn't have anything illegal (at the time) on them.

82. Which is why I stated all airports in the country had the same security
lapses. I could take a knife on board so long as the blade did not exceed 6 inches. I can do a hell of a lot of damage with such a knife. There was also a rule about "tools of the trade" which meant that a professional who required certain tools for their job could bring the tools onboard as carry ons. A baseball player could legally bring a baseball bat on board. A butcher could legally bring knives in excess of 6 inches on board. Security prior to 9/11 was the biggest joke in the world and was only in place to make the passengers feel safer.

And to this day, there simply is not enough security in the airports. I guarantee you, if a group of terrorists wanted to get a bomb on board in carry on luggage, it would be a simple matter to componentize it and get it on in most cases. It would require several suicide bombers colluding, but it could be done.

96. BREAKING: Kerry warned Bush* Administration of 911 Security Lapses
DU News Service

KERRY ISSUED LOGAN SECURITY WARNING PRIOR TO 911

by ParanoidPat for DUNS

New York - Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry is embroiled in a new controversy today as details emerged in the NY Post of security fears raised by a former FAA employee and passed on to the Massachusetts's Senator. According to the Post report, Brian Sullivan, a retired FAA special agent from the Boston area claims to have issued the warning in May 2001 in a two page letter to the Senator. Sullivan said he personally warned Kerry that Logan was ripe for a "jihad" suicide operation possibly involving "a coordinated attack."

On May 6, 2001 Boston TV station Fox-25 made public a story by reporter Deborah Sherman on an undercover investigation at Logan that Sullivan and another retired agent, Steve Elson, helped set up, possibly aiding the 911 hijackers by tipping them off to the vulnerabilities in security at Logan. The report cited that in nine out of 10 tries, a crew got knives and other weapons through security checkpoints - including the very ones exploited by the 9/11 hijackers.

In a bizarre twist, NY Post columnist Paul Sperry blames the Senator for the attacks that originated at Logan and subsequently devastated the World Trade Center in New York City. Although Kerry told the Boston Globe that he'd triggered an undercover probe of Logan security by the General Accounting Office in June 2001, and the Bush* Administrations FAA and DOT failed to act to bolster security at the airport in light of the findings of the security probes, Sperry holds Kerry responsible for not personally following up on the inaction of the DOT and FAA.

Sullivan wrote, "Where was Kerry's sense of urgency? Where was his leadership? These are fair questions to ask of someone vying for Bush's job." It is the opinion of this writer that these are also fair questions for someone holding Bush*'s job. Let's hope someone can squeeze them in during Bush*'s 1 hour before the 911 commission.

Outstanding, seriously.

This illustrates how the same information can be spun in two different ways. Now if we had a viable healthy media that would be one of the headlines and news scrolls that people would see but alas we will probably see the Post's way of spinning it.

KERRY WARNED BUSH OF 9/11!!!!!!!!!!!!

101. Wow, the campaign season IS starting early, isn't it?
I would have thought the Bush campaign would save this type of shit until October, but I guess they want to get underway with every ludicrous smear they've got. Unbelievable. Even for them.

104. Someone help me find this TIME article...
There was an article in Time magazine shortly after the election fiasco that detailed the transition from Clinton to W. In the article, it was revealed that the Clinton Security Adviser told Condie Rice, "The majority of your president's term will be occupied by Usama Bin Laden." to which she replied, "We have an economy that's going into the toilet, I don't think he's concerned with UBL." or something very, very close to that. They've been cleaning up this mess they dropped since the beginning. Why else would they not want to grant the 9/11 commission another 2 months? They need time to spin the results which will undoubtedly slam Bu$h and his cronies. This thing about Kerry is absolutely, totally bogus. If things are this ugly now, what are we going to be hearing in October? Kerry likes kiddy porn? A new low by Faux News.

Things are going to get interesting in this election campaign. There will be a lot of information that the media was hiding from the public that the Kerry campaign will be able to expose.

129. Kerry should call a special press conference to set the record straight!1
If it's a fight they want, it's a fight they should get. Once the facts are laid on the table the American people will be able to judge who really dropped the ball here. AND Kerry ought to call it what is really is, a cheap shot by a cheap RW media outlet that ought to be ashamed of themselves for using such an event as 9/11 to smear a vetern who is running for President. WHY ISN'T THE KERRY CAMPAIGN ALL OVER THIS? They are making me more angry than FOX! (not really)

123. Murdoch
is Australia's most embarrassing export, and belongs in a prison. Your Democratic Party needs an Anti-Defamation League urgently.

If the American voters know even less about your system of government than I do (hope not), this attack could be very effective.

Murdoch should never have been allowed to control public access to information in so many countries. I can (barely) tolerate media businessmen who pander to public stupidity to make money, but Murdoch is the opposite - he uses his empire to advance his "rich people's liberation" agenda. He couldn't do that and not go broke if competion still existed in the industry - of the few media outlets he doesn't control himself, not many do not collude with his agenda.

132. BREAKING: FOX News smear of Kerry DEBUNKED.
BUSTED! One of the "whistleblowers" who is the source of this attack propagated by FOX News -- one Mr. Brian Sullivan -- said in an interview with NBC News on SPETEMBER 16, 2001:

...
HANSEN: Besides helping the TV journalists, Sullivan says he expressed his concerns to the FAA administrator's hotline. He also says he sent this letter to Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, a letter that now seems all too prophetic.
Mr. SULLIVAN: With the concept of jihad, do you think it would be difficult for a determined terrorist to get on a plane and destroy himself and all of the passengers? Think for a moment how vital the air transportation industry is to our overall economic well being as a nation. Think what the result would be of a coordinated attack which took down several domestic flights on the same day. The problem is that with our current screening system this is more than possible. Given time, considering current threats, it is almost likely.
HANSEN: Sullivan says Senator Kerry responded to his letter and asked the Department of Transportation's inspector general to look into the matter.
Mr. SULLIVAN: I think Senator Kerry did get it to the right people and that they were about to take the right action."

What prompted him to CHANGE HIS STORY?!?

More here.

139. Hart Rudman was handed to Bush
http://www.guardian.co.uk/wtccrash/story/0,1300,561758,00.html

"We were warned. We were warned by some of the best minds in the United States that without a new emphasis on homeland security "Americans will likely die on American soil, possibly in large numbers".

-snip-

"Hart specifically mentioned the lack of readiness to respond to "a weapon of mass destruction in a highrise building".

-snip-

"Hearings were scheduled for the week of May 7. But the White House stymied the move. It did not want Congress to run ahead, not least with a report originated by a Democratic president and an ousted Republican speaker. On May 5, the administration announced that rather than adopting Hart-Rudman it was forming its own committee headed by Dick Cheney, the vice-president, who was expected to report in October. The hearings were cancelled.
"The administration actually slowed down response to the report when momentum was building in the spring," says Gingrich. Nobody puts any significance in the fact that Cheney's wife, Lynn, was a member of the commission who resigned over differences of view about the importance of China."

140. "The NY Times needs it's ass kicked"-Rudman
from the same link

"A number of commissioners visited the editorial boards of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. It was all to little avail. Network television news ignored the report; so did the serious evening news on public television. Only CNN did it justice. The New York Times and Wall Street Journal did not carry a line either of the report or the press conference. Boyd told me how he watched in disbelief as the New York Times reporter left before the presentation was over.

The rest of the national news coverage was fair, excellent in the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times, with a smattering of good stories in USA Today and the smaller and regional newspapers, using AP and Reuters. But what most astonished and then outraged the commissioners was that none of the major newspapers, except the Los Angeles Times briefly, offered any kind of platform or any kind of critical analysis or opinion. None of the network talk shows took it up; only the cable channels CNN and CNBC, briefly. Rather than sensational headlines, the report required elite opinion to engage in a sustained dialogue to probe, improve, explain and then press for action. The commissioners were particularly bewildered by the blackout at the Times and pitched an op-ed article signed by Hart and Rudman. The article was rejected.

Newspapers, by their nature, are bound to miss stories from time to time; but there was no attempt to catch up in the Times. The performance of the country's leading newspaper on the report is curious since it has distinguished itself over the years by giving prominence to Saddam Hussein's mischiefs and notable reports by Judy Miller, William Broad and Stephen Engelberg.

The commissioners were variously "dumbfounded" (Hart), "surprised" (Schlesinger), "stunned" (Gelb), and "appalled" (Rudman). "The New York Times," says Rudman, "deserves its ass kicked." Gingrich is more rueful: "I was very saddened. I thought in particular for the New York Times and the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal not to give it really serious coverage was a significant failure in providing educated citizens with an important report. And frankly, other than homeland security, they still haven't gone back and contemplated the scale of change we're describing."
