Maldives: Taliban met with Afghan gov't envoys

Taliban representatives held peace talks with Afghan government envoys at the end of January on a resort island in the Maldives, a spokesman for the president of the Indian Ocean nation said Wednesday.

The three-day talks were aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing Afghan war, but the Maldivian government was not directly involved with them, spokesman Mohamed Zuhair said.

Each side was represented by about a dozen people, Zuhair said, adding that there were "unconfirmed reports" that a U.N. official was also present.

The outgoing U.N. chief in Afghanistan, Kai Eide, reportedly met with Taliban representatives at the same time that the Maldivian meeting took place...

So, if Karzai makes peace with the Taliban and brings them into the government, exactly how have we changed Afghanistan?

3. Thats not what the war is about
It couldn't be. The US has propped up countless bloody dictators. The people are expendable and irrelevant to the outcome of the war

5. By some accounts, more civilians were killed in the last month than the total number of terrorists..

At the end of the day, when you file your 1040, just ask yourself: was it all worth it? Now we know you are already you are paying down taxes to pay for this, but would you give up your own children for that goal, or just only brown people's?

Its only worth it if you believe the Taliban/AQ are intent on carrying out further large scale attacks on innocent people. But I do hope we can get the hell out of there as soon as possible.

Well, I never believed they were a single cohesive unit with similar goals that should be referenced together with a backslash separating the two names, so you sorta lost me at "hello".

Belief. Its one hell of a concept to base lethal force on.
