Washington bans Canadian travel firm from doing business in US over Cuba link

Canadian Press
Thursday, March 18, 2004

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Bush administration on Wednesday identified a Canadian travel company that it says is linked to Cuba and thus forbidden from doing business in the United States.

The Treasury Department's action against Hola Sun Holidays Ltd. of Richmond Hill, Ont., just north of Toronto, marks the latest development from President George W. Bush's call for more aggressive enforcement of provisions that prohibit most travel to Cuba.

The travel agency "provides easy access to U.S. individuals travelling to Cuba," the department said. "U.S. law enforcement officials have intercepted unauthorized travellers whose tour packages were purchased through this travel agency, which uses the Internet to advertise and sell Cuban tourism to the U.S. public."

The department alleged that the travel agency is "controlled by Fidel Castro and his regime."

Winning the hearts and minds

will they ever stop?

3. Because Cuba is soooooo scary.

If only Washington would seek professional help about this irrational fear. It's been 45 years, already; it's disabling. It embarasses itself in polite company.

4. What the U.S. Gov't is scared of is -- Miami Cuban Republicans!
Cuban/US foreign policy is dictated from Miami.

Cuba is now the only country Americans aren't allowed to visit!
And we are not even at war with the 12 million friendly people who live on that Caribbean Island.

Miami Cuban Castro-hating exiles want to make sure Americans don't get to see what Cuba is really like. We are supposed to believe their lies and propaganda!

Americans need to get VERY pro-active, contact congresspersons, commit civil disobedience and go to Cuba in large groups, demonstrate at US airports (Miami, NY, LA) where planes fly directly to Havana on a regular basis, taking the Castro-hating exiles back to Cuba for visits.

9. Americans are permitted to travel to North Korea.
Here's info from the US State Department on American travel to North Korea:

"U.S. citizens traveling to North Korea usually obtain their visas at the DPRK Embassy in Beijing, China, which will only issue visas after receiving authorization from the DPRK Foreign Ministry in Pyongyang."

How dare the federal government tell me where I can travel outside the US?

Fuck you, Bush. I know what travel agency I'm using next time I fly overseas.

10. Everyone that I've spoken to that has visited loves it
.

.

Most people that go there once,

DON'T just go once

They almost always go back, or at least want to . .

I just can't accept the USA's attitude on Cuba as being "mature"

12. Same here - everyone I know who has gone, always goes back!
And one of those people I know VERY intimately!!!

Cuba has a magnetic effect that demands a return visit. This makes the travel ban even more oppressive and just plain wrong!

13. Poor, but education is free and mandatory!
Unlike Mexico where parents have to pay to send kids to high school, and many people are illiterate, Cuba has almost 100% literacy and many students go to the University. Women have equal rights and many are doctors or have other professional careers.
