Edited on Thu Mar-11-10 11:09 AM by SomeGuyInEagan
I still have a Pioneer LD player in the basement. Pulled it out last fall to convert some old video work I did in the early '90s to digital (the master tapes were betaSP, I think ... long gone ... and the LD formats were the only copies left).

I remember renting LDs (with players) back in the '80s. When you had to flip it to play side two, it was a great time for a beer run.

Really too bad about Corey Haim - that's just too young.

He was 38 when he died. A whole 8 years older than you. I however remember stars that were a decade and more older than me, from when I was a kid. But then even when I was 7 I was allowed to watch movies.

allows you to have when you're no longer their darling, and a kid. His family have my deepest sympathies and dont ever want to know how his Mum feels, as a Mum I guess, I can empathize. My son has had many ups and downs too.

I know my son has put me through many problems with addiction as a teen. He *IS* doing fine now, but that is still day by day. I hope it will last. But I never hope to be in her position and say well, what a relief - a tad cold despite how badly he behaved, you never want your kid dead. And personally, empathize for Mother's going through this, losing a child for any reason is my worst nightmare.

52. Jeez. I wonder if he and Feldman had reconciled?
The last I recall (from watching The Two Coreys a year or two ago) was Feldman had finally had enough of Haim. Feldman kept trying to help him over and over and Haim just had problems that would not go away. He was an addict, no doubt.

I bet Feldman is feeling pretty lousy today, even though I'm sure he knew it was inevitable.

edit to post full comment and link:

I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren’t even open all the way when the tears started streaming down my face. I am so sorry for Corey, his mother Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and of course my son who I will have to find a way to explain this to when he gets home from school. This is a tragic loss of a wonderful, beautiful, tormented soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we treat the people we share this world with while they are still here to make a difference. Please respect our families as we struggle and grieve through this difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind will be remembered as the passion of that for which he truly lived. ~ Corey

58. Here's an insightful post about Haim's allegation of childhood sexual abuse
I recall this episode also and agree with what this poster wrote:

http://womenspeakout.wordpress.com/2010/03/10/corey-haim-lost-boy-dead-at-38/

All of these reports coming out covering his prescription medication and drug abuse, as if this was the explanation for why Corey is no longer here. I couldn’t believe how we all missed it completely.

The answer to the question of why took me back to the The Two Coreys. In one episode, they decided to see a therapist together. Corey Haim and Corey Feldman shared a terrible secret. An adult friend of Feldman’s raped Corey Haim. A friend Feldman kept around after knowing what he did. During the therapy session you could see the pain that this had caused Haim.

Just for a brief moment I understood what underlied this cocky and obnoxious persona I resented back in the 80’s. The drugs only masked the deeper pain that none of us male survivors ever want to deal with.
