Rove 'proud' of US waterboarding terror suspects

A senior adviser to former US President George W Bush has defended tough interrogation techniques, saying their use helped prevent terrorist attacks.

In a BBC interview, Karl Rove, who was known as "Bush's brain", said he "was proud we used techniques that broke the will of these terrorists".

He said waterboarding, which simulates drowning, should not be considered torture.

In 2009, President Barack Obama banned waterboarding as a form of torture.

But the practice was sanctioned in written memos by Bush administration lawyers in August 2002, providing legal cover for its use.

against Bush and his administration had to be much more solid than it had been. That that was the reason she took impeachment off the table but that she thinks there should always be accountablility. I wonder if all the confessions coming out leave any impression on her.

19. Karl Rove Says He's "Proud" of Waterboarding, Interrogation Tactics
Source: CBS News

President Bush's senior political adviser Karl Rove said in an interview this week he is proud that the United States used waterboarding in its efforts to prevent terrorist attacks and that the extreme interrogation method is not torture. Speaking to the BBC, Rove also said, however, that reasonable people may disagree about whether it is torture.

"I'm proud that we used techniques that broke the will of these terrorists and gave us valuable information that allowed us to foil plots such as flying airplanes into Heathrow and into London, bringing down aircraft over the Pacific, flying an airplane into the tallest building in Los Angeles and other plots," Rove said. "Yes, I'm proud that we kept the world safer than it was, by the use of these techniques. They're appropriate, they're in conformity with our international requirements and with U.S. law."

When pressed on whether waterboarding is torture, Rove said unequivocally, "No, it's not." He added that "reasonable people can disagree... This isn't something about which we can argue. It is not a situation of black and white."

The BBC asked Rove about an assertion from the former head of MI5, the Britain intelligence service, who said that former President Bush and his advisers were inspired by the Fox television show "24" to pursue a "war on terror."

"That's laughable," Rove said. "I know President Bush, he doesn't watch television much except for sporting events; same with Secretary (of Defense Donald) Rumsfeld. While Vice President Cheney was a fan of '24,' he is fully capable of distinguishing between fact and fiction."

BUSH ASKED BERNARD FOR 24 PLOT

Thursday October 22,2009

24 star CARLOS BERNARD was shocked when he met GEORGE W. BUSH - because the former U.S. President is obsessed with the hit show.

Bernard's character Tony Almeida was apparently killed off during the drama's fifth season in 2006, but stunned fans when he returned two series later.

And the cliffhanger kept even the most powerful on tenterhooks - the then-President Bush was desperate to discover Almeida's fate when he bumped into Bernard.

The actor says, "He grabbed me at a baseball game in the U.S. A big guy came up to me and said, 'Excuse me, the President would like to speak with you.' I went over, and it was George W. Bush, and he said 'Hey Carlos, when are you coming out of that coma? All I can do is watch that show of yours. Are you coming back?' I was like, you don't have anything better to do?"

22. Disgusting. People for torture really need it done to them. This inable to sympathize type
doesn't really learn any other way. I think it's a psychology problem. Seriously, he can't feel emotions to empathize with others pain. Either that or he's naturally cruel which may equate to the same thing.

26. Karl Rove
Edited on Fri Mar-12-10 12:22 PM by luckyleftyme2
Here he is much like the repukes of the past getting air time-what He doesn't say is his wife left him,his friends left him and he escaped prosecution but spilled his guts to save his butt!
This is a perfect example of someone who thinks rules are for others to follow it is much more important to bend them than follow them!
the country is a much better place if we keep him out of the limelight!
thanks to him and others like him our government is riddled with left over nut cases that think like him! and we are stuck paying for mistakes made from 2000-2O06!

Somedays you have got to dust off your better education, growth as a human, and just get medieval on shitstains who won't be dealt with by anyone in power, but who are allowed to run around bragging about and making millions of dollars being a disgusting piece of shit.

Dusted off and ready to go. Where will that sumbitch speak next?

Seriously, where do they teach that we can't argue about issues that "are not black and white"?

Ahh, yes, I remember, the dictator school.
