Glenn Beck, (US Rep) Steve King: Health Care Bill Vote (on Sunday) an Affront to God
Source: CBS News

Conservative lawmakers and pundits already have many grievances against the Democratic health care reform plan, but Rep. Steve King of Iowa and Fox News personality Glenn Beck are adding one more to the list -- the vote scheduled for Sunday.

...

"They intend to vote on the Sabbath, during Lent, to take away the liberty that we have right from God," King said on Beck's radio program Thursday, the Hill reports.

Beck chimed in, "Here is a group of people that have so perverted our faith and our hope and our charity, that is a -- this is an affront to God."

"I think that it is absolutely appropriate that these people are trying to put the nail in the coffin on our country on a Sunday," he added, "something our founders would have never, ever, ever done. Out of respect for God."

The liberal blog Think Progress points out the Senate in 2005, under Republican control, passed a bill on Palm Sunday that allowed a federal court to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case, the controversial surrounding keeping a brain dead woman on life support.

3. "The liberal blog Think Progress points out"
For cryin' out loud, CBS News, the Terri Schiavo thing is a fact, not just something that a "liberal blog" pointed out.

Stop hiding behind he-said-she-said "journalism," and call a fact a fact ... and stop being afraid to point out hypocrisy.

Liberal media my ass.

I see it every day when I watch their NYC broadcast. Even in as liberal a place as NYC, they keep up with the CON line.

41. Meh - they're giving credit to Think Progress
and they didn't use a weasel word like 'claim'. I'd say using 'pointed out' is acknowledging it as a fact, while giving the credit to Think Progress for saying it first, rather than trying to make it look like CBS's own research.

4. Voting on the Sabbath
should hardly be of concern to them. I'm sure they both do plenty of things on the Sabbath that are far from holy. Shopping, watching TV, going out to dinner. Unless they both spend their entire Sabbath in prayer, keeping it holy - not praying for Obama to fail, then these two clowns can't claim to be standing on any kind of high moral ground.

Sheesh, these guys are idiots.

10. Hmmmm.... the Sabbath
Jesus cured a leper on the Sabbath ---- one of the many things he did on the Sabbath that pissed off the pharisees which ultimately led to a Friday afternoon on Calvary.

12. Actually, the Sabbath is Saturday...
If the right wing would do their homework, the Sabbath has begun at sundown Friday for about 5000 years.

They should be violently objecting to Saturday votes.

But then again, no one expects them to think.

Saturday if you're a Jew, Sunday if you're a Christian. Funny how religions that claim to worship the same Deity can't agree on this.

So Congress is supposed to take a six-freakin'-week-long Lenten recess?! :wtf:

And now with Keith Ellison and Andre Carson in there, I suppose they'll have to recess for Ramadan, too...

And as for the Sabbath thing, any number of Jewish reps could just as easily object to Saturday votes, and so on, and so on...

17. Truly Religious People Would Be Glad
They would be glad to see others being able to relieve their suffering by having doctors or meds to help them. That IS what it's all about!! You can pray to do or just do it. Isn't the Quakers who will not take pay on Sundays? Perhaps Congress can take a hint from that and help this bill even more by working on Sunday free of charge AND pass the damn bill and start showing some concern for many of us in a medical sink hole.

21. They need to stop pretending to speak for God and check what they consider "God's word"
Might access to health care be a priority?

III John 2 (KJV)

"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."

Could health be even a greater priority than was keeping the Sabbath? To, the Pharisees, no. To Jesus, probably yes.

See

Matthew 12: 1 to 14

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+12&version=KJV

And

Mark 2:23-28 through Mark 3: 1-6

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+2&version=KJV

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark+3&version=KJV

And

Luke (the physician) 6: 1-11

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke+6&version=KJV

Sample quote: Luke 6:9

"Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?"

If God exists, He is exceedingly patient. In His shoes, I'd do a heck of a lot more smiting of folks who purported to speak for God.

23. Hint to Beck and his "fellow believer's"
If God is so important to your votes...why not just "let God be God" and trust that what He wants for America is best???? Why not just pray, Lord may thy will be done for America on this vote, instead of telling Him what His will is???????????? I'm a Christian...I TRUST God....when I'm not sure of a right answer or direction, I turn it over to He who knows best!......plus, like said in the OP...they could also stay away and go to Church????

31. Lent does not include Sundays. There is no "Alellullia," as in Lent, but it is only M-Sat.
Dang Republicant math! 40 days and 40 nights . . . they even wrote a song about it. Sundays do not count as being in Lent, save for liturgical colors and no "Alellulia" during the Mass, and marriages and baptisms reserved for "emergencies" by tradition. Shoot, I 'm an Anglican and I know more than Mr. Super Catholic King. I do not believe that the Mormen have Lent. They modify their bodies daily by denial of coffee and tea, I am given to understand; the now archaic hair shirt and chains of ancient ascetics having made way for no commando and mid 19th century non-stylish, yet holy all the same, underwear, with strange Masonic symbols cut into them that we "gentiles" are not to mock. Now what type of sick person would mock a "religion" that has its own recently discovered sacred texts complete with a novel pre-genetic understanding of ancestry and ability of actual Egyptian hieroglyphs being soon able to be readable?\
I can see someone being born into a tribal and hereditary superstition, but one to freely choose that particular one because it is the most Republican/"family values" one as alleged when on a long dry out from a coke and whiskey binge, that is odd. I could not give up my devotion to Sir Thomas Lipton myself. Bloody un-Anglo, un-Southern, and not right. Not giving up tea not giving up coffee, not giving up scoffing at the Mormen and ridiculing their ceremonies and white bakers' hats and "fig leaf" "aprons" and little Paylayohlay chants and Old Joe's prophetic ability. They bring it, much like the Triburapture proponents do, upon themselves by invitation, invitation, I say, sir, invitation. No sane person could not mean such rot save as an invitation to a chortling.

Exodus 35:2

"Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the LORD: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death."

Everyone who works today - doctors, retail clerks, police, firefighters, nurses, restaurant workers, ambulance drivers- must be executed according to Biblical law.
