MOSCOW - President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev sealed an agreement on a landmark nuclear arms reduction treaty during a phone call Friday, White House officials said.

Obama and Medvedev will meet on April 8 in Prague to sign the treaty.

A White House statement said the treaty will limit both sides to 1,550 warheads each — about 30 percent fewer than in the previous agreement. It also limits each to 700 deployed missiles and bombers.

The accord, the first major arms control agreement in a generation between the two former Cold War adversaries, raises hopes for further disarmament initiatives.

So, which Republicans will fly out to Prague to protest the deal the way they did with climate change accords?

4. Could be. But if we play our cards right, treaty opponents will get hurt badly.
Nobody of sound mind wants all these nukes around: they've been an international nightmare for sixty years or more. And unless the nuclear-armed states continue to disarm, they lose credibility with the rest of the world when attempting to limit nuclear proliferation

6. Russia won't go much farther i fear
they are investing heavily in new nuclear weapon ballistic subs, new nuclear bombers, and new ICBMs. There are rumors that any new deals will probably have to involve a reduction in U.S. conventional force (such as decomissioning 2 Aircraft carriers and 500 fighters). If that is the case i don't see any more treaties for the foreseeble future. Nor should the U.S. be held hostage by a signficantly weaker economic and military power.
