Pakistan Says Militants Must Surrender, or Die

WANA, Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistan troops and helicopters rained fire on Islamic militants and their tribal allies thought to be sheltering Osama bin Laden's deputy, saying on Saturday they must surrender or die.

Throughout the night, the military shelled and fired mortar bombs at up to 400 al Qaeda fighters and Pakistani tribesman holding out in well-fortified compounds in Pakistan's wild South Warizistan tribal area near the border with Afghanistan.

"They cannot escape... Either they surrender or they get eliminated," military spokesman Major-General Shaukat Sultan told CNN.

Pakistani forces say the fierce defense the militants have mounted since the battle began on Tuesday suggested they were protecting a "high-value target," possibly bin Laden's deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri.

As for the Pakistani Forces...nothing against Pakistan but exactly what is their military's record except defeat upon defeat upon defeat? What was the last Pakistani military combat victory? I just wonder off topic here.......
