Silicon Valley jobless rate jumps to 12.3 percent

Even as Silicon Valley employers added 2,800 payroll jobs, the unemployment rate in Santa Clara and San Benito counties jumped last month to 12.3 percent, the California Employment Development Department reported today.

The valley's unemployment rate was 12.1 percent in February and 10.5 percent in March 2009.

Valley employers added jobs in the government, leisure and hospitality, manufacturing, and retail sectors. However, the construction sector lost 300 jobs. The total number of payroll jobs in the two counties was 845,600, down 2.9 percent from March 2009.

1. I assume the H-1B program is still going great guns?
If so much as a single American worker is displaced by a foreign national with a H-1B, it is a fucking travesty that must be remedied immediately (and you know fucking well there are plenty of American workers who have been displaced).
