53 journalists killed in 2003

PARIS: Fifty-three journalists and media workers were killed around the world in 2003, 15 of them in Iraq, the Paris-based World Association of Newspapers (WAN) said on Thursday.

The article doesn't give a breakdown, but I remember at least two incidents.

- hotel in Baghdad
- P.O.W. camp in or around Baghdad

By U.S. fire. SOme others in vehicle accidents; some in attacks by Iraqis. COmplete list is here:

Which means that if you're a journalist who's about to become a statistic, the chances are 1 in 10 you will be killed by known agents of the United States. Now there are some odds this bastion of democracy and freedom can be proud of. We're NUMBER ONE!
