Chrysler May Lift Industry in Biggest Gain Since 2005
Source: Bloomberg

By Katie Merx

April 30 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. auto sales strengthened a year after bankruptcies began to batter the auto industry, with Chrysler Group LLC forecast to post its biggest monthly gain since 2005.

Industrywide deliveries in April may have risen to an annualized rate of 11.4 million light vehicles, the average of 8 analysts’ estimates compiled by Bloomberg, compared with a year earlier. Chrysler, which entered Chapter 11 a year ago today before emerging controlled by Turin, Italy-based Fiat SpA, may have climbed 15 percent, 6 projections show.

The yearly rate of domestic sales in April may be less than the 11.8 million seasonally adjusted annualized pace in March, when Toyota Motor Corp. offered its biggest incentives to counter global recalls, spurring competitors to add discounts.

“The automotive industry is in full-blown recovery,” said Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry trends and insight for TrueCar.com in Santa Monica, California. “Toyota’s generous incentives in April continue to bring consumers back into dealerships; however, the impact of its incentive programs in the marketplace appears to have diminished slightly in April.”

1. In 6 months, Chrysler will be the most exciting car company on the planet
Chrysler has a spectacular product cadence coming that will shock the rest of the industry. We are looking at a possible Apple computer of the car business. Marchionne is a genius like the car business hasn't seen in a long time.

3. Very bad managers are being replaced with very good managers

Mediocre products will be replaced by world beaters. These cars will proudly be sold all over the world.

BTW, Chrysler has the highest ranking black car executive in the world and he's a good one. Ralph Gilles, a Haitian-Canadian is in charge of styling for all of Chrysler and the CEO of the Dodge car division. Fred Diaz is in charge of Ram trucks. Check out how many minorities have any power at Japanese car companies, like none.

4. What's the impact on American jobs?
I don't care about stockholders, only workers. Show me a bunch of jobs for Americans, and I'll be genuinely happy.

5. Chrystler Has Some Nice Cars Coming Out, But Can They Hold On?
I don't know what happened, but I am a lot more excited about the new cars coming out of Ford, GM and Chrystler than I have been in a long time. Case in point, the Taurus. A couple of years ago, I never seriously considered the Ford Taurus compared to the Camry. Now, the Taurus is a lot more exciting as a car, particularly the SHO. I only wonder what took American car companies so long? Were they too busy fighting fuel efficiency standards, and yielding this territory to Honda and Toyota?

Now, cars like the Ford Fusion can compete with Accord and Camry.
