California loses fight to end prison oversight
Source: Associated Press

The Schwarzenegger administration lost a legal fight Friday to end oversight of California's prison health care system.

A three-judge panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a federal judge can continue with a court-appointed receiver to improve inmate medical care.

The appeals court also dismissed the administration's request to stop the receiver's construction plans to add medical beds.

Rachel Arrezola, a spokeswoman for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, said the state will appeal the ruling to a larger panel of the appeals court in San Francisco.

1. California can't afford its own gulag.
Maybe it needs to rethink its harsh sentencing policies.

6. America needs to rethink about their harah sentecing at the state and federal levels.
The country needs to review and unify criminal laws so that at least it is at least strong as the federal criminal code. Others include decriminalizing drug offenses, and victimless crimes.

3. Screw you Ahnuld, and screw the private prison corporations too.
They are a big part of why the state is bankrupt.

4. Arnold has been such a dandy governor that he's sorry the Constitution
won't let him be President.

The rest of us are very glad.

7. Maybe the gov should spend some of this money and effort on improving prison
conditions, the things the court objected to in the first place. Then, the court would remove the receiver without being asked. It's pretty sleazy to try and use budget problems as an excuse to get out of a court mandate, especially when that mandate is to take care of some of the most vulnerable Californians...

8. California didn't loose fight, arnie did. Big difference.
Anytime arnie looses, California wins.
