MOBILE, Ala. -- The attorneys general from Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas want BP PLC to sign an agreement spelling out exactly what "legitimate expenses" they'll cover from the spill.

Florida AG Bill McCollum said after Sunday's meeting in Mobile, Ala., that he doesn't know if expenses include business losses, protecting environmental areas and lost wages for restaurant workers.

The AGs also want tap an entire federal oil spill response fund, which is capped at $1 billion per incident.

3. I'm sure BP will pay for everything.
Why wouldn't they? All they need to do is pass the costs to the consumers at the gasoline pump, so what's the big deal . . .

10. +1
production will fall, as will supply... maybe a refinery or two will go offline in time for the summer vacation time of high demand... Quarterly profits will be just fine, thank you....

4. There is no reason states should pay for this mess
Nor should the U.S. Government. It is BP's fault and they should have to pay the entire cost.

5. I hope they're not holding their breath
How long did it take to squeeze money out of Exxon for the Exxon Valdez? They'll have to go through at least as many court fights for at least as long to get far less money than is needed in this case, far too late. Count on it...
