View full size(Louisiana Bucket Brigade)The Louisiana Bucket Brigade is mapping effects from the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, including this notation of the strong fuel odor in the New Orleans air. Similar reports of fuel-like smells are beginning to be reported along coastal Alabama.MOBILE, Ala. -- The strong odor reported in the New Orleans area in the last week appears to have made its way to the Alabama coast, with the Press-Register receiving reports of people having smelled a pungent fuel smell over the last 2 days.
One person reported having smelled the odor while out on Mobile Bay on Sunday south of Point Clear. Another person reported smelling it by their home in central Mobile.
In Louisiana, officials requested continuous air quality testing and monitoring from the Environmental Protection Agency, and state Department of Environmental Quality officials said they have increased the frequency their air sampling.
