NC farmworkers' group protests at RJR meeting

Farm labor activists say they'll descend on the annual meeting of cigarette giant R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. to demand better working conditions in the fields.

The Farm Labor Organizing Committee says it will protest at Reynolds' annual shareholder meeting on Friday in Winston-Salem.

The group has spent years demanding a face-to-face meeting with top Reynolds executives. FLOC says the company has the economic power to force farm owners to improve working conditions for about 30,000 tobacco farmworkers in the state.
