Climate scientists decry 'political assaults'
Source: San Francisco Chronicle

(05-07) 19:53 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- In an unusually strong attack on politically powerful deniers of global warming, 255 members of the National Academy of Sciences, including 32 from Northern California, have charged that opponents are using "McCarthy-like tactics" against legitimate climate scientists.

The letter condemning "political assaults" on climate researchers was published Friday in the journal Science, and was sent earlier to the White House Office of Science and Technology, where John Holdren, its director, is President Obama's science adviser.

Members of the Academy of Sciences, who are frequently called upon to advise the federal government and its agencies on scientific questions, normally debate controversial issues sedately. But with the global warming debate becoming increasingly politically charged, the scientists struck back.

To avoid violating the "<4 paragraphs" rule, the letter did implicitly call out Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), who called for a criminal investigation into the University of East Anglia climate change research team whose emails got stolen and mis-interpreted into the phony Climategate scandal.

1. Most Americans do not appreciate science...
When 60% of Americans deny life evolved on planet Earth that alone should scare the hell out of those who know the importance of science. Science is why we went from horse & cart to landing on the moon in less than 100 years to the comforts of the modern age...Yet most Americans want to believe Bronze Age Men's version of world history! WTF?

What must happen to force upon America the importance of science? One has to wonder...

See, e.g. Virginia AG Ken Cuccinelli's dangerous suit against climate change.

3. Exactly
Since the 80's the Religious Right in this country have been spending MILLIONS dumbing the public down church by church! Now we have a 30 Million Dollar Creation Museum that gets so many visitors it has paid for itself and turns nothing but profit.(Just what I have heard do not know for sure) However, it appears packed every time I see video of it or know someone who went just to see the STUPID on display!

Now they use that STUPID to make folks hate science & not believe a word scientist say! However, they sure do love doctors when sick and all the other benefits science has brought them! HYPOCRITS!

5. They don't appreciate science
But they love the technology, the medicines, the military hardware, and all those cool science gadgets.

It amazes me that people can deny science yet accept the engineering that science creates.
