U.S. Inflation at 44-Year Low as Retail Prices Fall
Source: The New York Times

Consumer prices fell in April for the first time since early last year, and inflation rose at its slowest rate since the 1960s, a new government report said.

Consumer prices over all fell in April by 0.1 percent, the Labor Department said in its monthly report Wednesday. The decline was the first since March 2009. Prices rose by 0.1 percent in March 2010.

The downturn was pressured by a decline in energy prices, especially for gasoline and natural gas, the report said. Energy prices fell by 1.4 percent in April, the department said.

Food prices rose 0.2 percent, mostly because of higher costs for meat, poultry, fish and eggs.

19. Our copay on prescriptions $5 to $37
The two of us use 11 maintenance meds, so $55/month goes to $407/month.

Yes, and premiums went up 11%.

22. I just don't believe the numbers.
I'm near Seattle and nothing, but nothing has gotten cheaper. Gas prices are climbing like a space shuttle.

I've converted to CFC & led lights and use far fewer kwh, but my power bill in the summer (without A/C) is higher than it used to be in the winter (with heat).

14. We are really shocked...
over the past three years our electric/water/sewer with JEA has gone up at least that much, and they just announced that they'll be hiking it up again very soon. It's really killing us. Our utilities bill will equal our mortgage payment before too long!

7. yeah right
gasoline went up here recently to $3.39 a gallon. Onions at the store were $2.99 a lb. What great deals huh?

Everything else has gone up. Garbage bill is now over $50.00 a month (used to be just over $30.00).

What a crock!

This is irrelevant or fake propaganda.
If products are cheaper maybe it's because they are coming from china.
But the quality is not the same.

23. When you de-regulate everything all that means is more profit margin
for companies when energy prices fall. They don`t need to charge that much, they just do. No incentive to lower costs. No one to stop them.BTW,gas prices fell here(NE Ohio)
