California employers keep adding jobs
Source: LA Times

California employers added jobs for the fourth straight month in April as the state's sluggish labor market continued to show signs of life.

Payrolls increased by 14,200 in April, bringing the total number of jobs added this year to 56,400, according to the state Employment Development Department. Despite the gains, however, California companies still employ 1.3 million fewer people than they did when employment peaked in July of 2007.

"It's certainly nothing to write home about, but it is fair to say we are growing again," said Stephen Levy, director of the Center for Continuing Study of the California Economy.

California's unemployment rate remained unchanged from March, at 12.6%, although that's because more workers — about 69,000 — rejoined the labor force to look for work.

We are going to get a lot of spin. The spin from the corporate media is that the increase in unemployment is entirely due to government hiring. The truth is that state and local government are still getting killed and laying off employees, and the increase jobs are due to the private sector notwithstanding the Republicans' socialism rhetoric. I would not be surprised if jobs fall as governments trim budgets toward the end of the fiscal year. But don't tell that to the corporate media.

1. Toyota is partnering up with some other company to do electric vehicles
right here in Fremont, California. When the plant closed 7,000 lost their jobs...
and my understanding is that once it is up and running again, it will employ 10,000! :bounce:

If they can bring the price down, I'd gladly buy one.

I heard about Tesla a few years ago.

7. mass production implies that at least a large segment of society can afford them from the beginning
Tesla cars are NOT in that category. And I doubt they'll want to downgrade from being the Ferrari equivalent of electric cars.

8. Yea
Slowly but surely the jobs are opening up again. I guess the present administration's input is working for the ecomony.
