Security for next month's G8 and G20 summits will cost Canadian taxpayers at least $833 million.

Figures released Tuesday by the federal government reveal $654 million in new money, on top of $179 million already earmarked. And the tally could grow another $100 million, according to the office of Public Safety Minister Vic Toews.

"As we have always stated, overall costs will be finalized following the completion of the summits," Toews' office said in a statement. "However, based on a medium-level threat assessment, we've budgeted up to $930 million for security."

The numbers show the RCMP — which is leading the massive effort — will receive an additional $321 million, while the Public Safety Department gets $262 million.

WTF!!!????
How could a temporary conference (s) cost almost a BILLION to secure???

For that money you could put EACH attendee into an Armored Personnel Carrier and have 50 regular soldiers guard each person.

Somebody is making a lot of money from the Canadian taxpayers. Maybe Xe is up there???
