American Death Toll in Afghanistan Reaches 1,000

Source: Times Online

The toll of American soldiers killed in Afghanistan reached 1,000 on Friday, a grim milestone that came as Americans back home prepared to commemorate their war dead.

News that the body count had ticked into four figures came with the death in a roadside bombing of an American serviceman, yet to be named, who was the 32nd US soldier to die in the past month. He is the 430th to be killed in Afghanistan since President Obama took office in January 2009.

This Monday marks the United States’ Memorial Day, a public holiday to remember Americans killed in war with ceremonies at military cemeteries across the country.

USA Today, America’s national newspaper, marked the moment with a front page headline announcing: “Afghanistan: America’s Longest War” — foreshadowing the moment early in June that the conflict completes its 104th month and overtakes the Vietnam War, which ran for 103, making it the longest war in U.S. history.

3. Our combat troops are in the middle of a civil war. Supporting an illegitimate "puppet" leader.

The MIC wants to maintain endless war in Afghanistan. We, the American People can never be absolutely sure what forces are "at play" during any given attack scenario.

Gives you the warm fuzzies, aye? :scared:

4. This is a tragic waste....we don't ever learn..
...and we don't care enough, as a nation, to do anything about it; so we just keep repeating the same waste over and over and over again.

We really are the problem.

5. Doc
Edited on Fri May-28-10 11:44 PM by James48
I'm thinking of you tonight, "Doc Stiggy".

Navy Hospital Petty Officer 3rd Class Benjamin P. Castiglione.

September 3, 2009.

Afghanistan.

Your funeral was great, Doc. Everybody was there. Even an 2-star Admiral showed up.

He gave one flag folded to your mom. And another one folded to your dad.

Good-bye, Doc. I'll be thinking of you Monday.

8. What Gets People's Attention
Isn't it interesting how, like sheep, American people get distracted by whatever the media chooses to throw at them. It might be Tiger Woods' affairs, a dog trapped in a well, or whatever.

Meanwhile, young Americans are quietly dying in the wars that we are engaged in. Nobody seems to notice.
