Democrats blast talk of cutbacks in air marshal program

(Capitol Hill-AP)

Senate Democrats say the administration's plan to cut back on the number of air marshals has been grounded.

They say they've been told that discussions of such a move were a mistake. The Transportation Security Administration's money-saving proposal came as the government warned about the possibility al-Qaida may try more suicide hijackings.

Senator Charles Schumer and others say even the mention of such a drastic move shows the homeland security effort needs more money. ---

Senator Barbara Boxer says cutting back on air marshals "flies in the face of basic common sense."

1. If you were prez, wouldn't you be touting the air marshal program

rather than threatening to can it?

2. Talk about a *coincidence*

I was watching the announcement of the air marshall cuts scheduled for late Aug. on CNN as the crawler on the screen was citing new intelligence regarding a possible terrorist attack near the exact same time...how very *convenient*...:eyes:

3. Seems to me Bush isn't only issuing terror alerts, but....

....given his penchant for cutting airline security, could it be that he's seeing to it that "al-Qaeda" (read: the Bushies) would have the wherewithall to pull these 9/11 repeats off? :shrug:
