Obama to pledge sweeping climate change legislation
Source: Washington Post

President Obama on Wednesday will promise to find the votes for comprehensive climate change legislation in the "coming months," saying the case for putting a price on the nation's addiction to carbon has been made clear by the environmental catastrophe unfolding in the Gulf of Mexico.

In excerpts of a speech at Carnegie Mellon University released by the White House, the president plans to repeat his intentions to roll back billions of dollars in tax breaks on big oil companies, tap natural gas reserves as an alternative to oil, and increase reliance on nuclear power.

The president will acknowledge that he does not yet have enough support in Congress for his clean-energy vision. But in the wake of the oil spill, Obama promises to personally press for passage this year of a bipartisan framework pending in the Senate.

"I will make the case for a clean-energy future wherever I can, and I will work with anyone from either party to get this done. But we will get this done," he says in the excerpts. "The next generation will not be held hostage to energy sources from the last century."

1. It has always been on Obama's mind
just as his children's future is on his mind everyday.

He just has a lot of stuff to do.

Besides the environmental problems.

We are creating another corporate monster that
will government by which ever genital descriptions don't offend you.

7. By 2050 it will use more fossil fuel to extract uranium ore than burning that fuel WITHOUT uranium.
In other words, to get uranium out of the ground for nuclear power you need to use ENERGY. That energy comes from fossil fuel. But by 2050 the best uranium deposits will already have been extracted and we will be left with the lesser deposits that require more fossil fuel to extract less uranium. The result is that by 2050 there is no advantage to nuclear power and we would have gotten more energy from just burning that fossil fuel directly than from using it to extract the uranium from the ground. It's a fool's game to go with nuclear power.

In other words, by 2050 having nuclear power means using MORE fossil fuel, not less.

Of course, energy enterprises are SAFE. What could POSSIBLY go wrong with an energy project, huh?

I mean, it's not as if some nut would ever fly a plane into a nuclear power plant. That could NEVER happen!

The Gulf oil leak just destroyed the Gulf of Mexico.

A nuclear accident could destroy an area of LAND where millions of people live, such as:

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

Anyway, the big problem is that Obama is still acting like the LEGISLATOR IN CHIEF. That's Pelosi's job, not his. He also happens to be the CHIEF EXECUTIVE. Who'da thunk? It's not just his job to propose legislation but to FIX things and take CHARGE of things and RUN things. As in the Gulf leak. About which he is doing nothing. We will pay in November for this laxity.

4. Hardly a surprise
Obama also said he wanted to be the last president to deal with health "care" and it turned out his idea of reform was to sell us to the insurance companies and dig them deeper into the system.

8. Just because you're tired of it, doesn't mean it isn't true.
