Chinese Workers Win Wave of Raises
Source: WSJ

BEIJING—Workers are winning higher pay and better conditions at some of China's biggest manufacturers, a shift that promises to change the nation's economy while complicating life for foreign companies.

Workers at a Chinese company that supplies exhaust pipes to Honda Motor Co. extended their walkout for a third day Wednesday, less than a week after the Japanese auto maker settled a walkout at another supplier—which paralyzed Honda's manufacturing operation in China for 10 days—by granting workers a 24% increase in pay and benefits.

1. This has been posted multiple times. This will only bring wages up to inflation
they will go from $180 to $220 per month. Considering that the cost of life in these countries has increased dramatically, this is not changing much.

However, it is good that they are organizing.

2. US workers are not even getting raises to deal with inflation.
We're just getting screwed.

4. Nothing worse than a "merit raise" that is less than inflation.
It was insulting to the point where the corporate crooks would have been better off keeping the money and using it to improve our crappy work environment.

5. Not defending the banksters at all, but the Average American does need...
...to confront his own part in the debacle.

The Average American did all to cheerfully morgtage himself to the hilt for absolute frivolities.

He did go into debt beyond his abilty to pay on the promise of ever rising real estate values letting him profit. And rather than use the honeymoon period to pay down principle, (which does give a lot of leverage when it comes to renegotiation at the end of that period, or a very nice grace period if life turns to shit) the chase for frivolities continued.

He bought into the disingenuous advertising that confused his needs with his wants, but in the end, even fairly basic critical thinking skills and a modicum of self control renders advertising powerless.

The unfortunate thing is there is always a buyer for snake oil, and he as much as the salesman is responsible for outcomes.

That is simply not true.

It seems apparent to someone who's mind is open and has been educated to what is happening. But for the average consumer and right winger their brain synapses simply don't allow them to easily come to the same conclusions you do. Their minds have been "trained" over time not to think critically, and to use false assumptions that render poor decisions.

Haven't you ever wondered why you can talk with many people and point out what is clearly logical, but they just won't get it? That is what you are seeing. Cognitive scientists understand this well, and Marketers, and yes the Republicans, are experts at using Cognitive science to manipulate people.

Turning that back requires education and time and is not a simple matter.

8. Many Americans did *just that*, but I don't know if it was even half of Americans
But it was enough to create a huge debt problem.
