U.S. sets BP 72-hour deadline for fresh oil spill plans
Agence France-Presse · Wednesday, Jun. 9, 2010

WASHINGTON -- The US government has given British energy giant BP a 72-hour deadline to produce updated plans to contain and recover the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, an official letter said Wednesday.

“BP shall provide the plans for these parallel, continuous, and contingency collection processes, including an implementation timeline, within 72 hours of receiving this letter,” ordered the letter.

The missive from federal on-scene coordinator Rear Admiral James Watson to BP chief operating officer Doug Suttles was dated Tuesday.

1. after 51 days?
What took so long?

Okk... now, when the EPA gets the letter from BP, the EPA should immediately fine BP and place liens on all BP property.

BP doesn't give a damn about laws and such things, but when you grab their money, they'll listen. The only leverage we have is to own their assets.

2. And if they don't comply? Then what?
Do they get another letter? Double-secret probation? This article says nothing about penalties should they fail to meet the deadline.

3. And?
I seem to remember that the EPA also ordered BP to quit using toxic dispersant - an order which BP ignored. This won't be any different. BP is calling the shots and the administration is utterly impotent to challenge that.

9. EPA never ordered anything.

EPA could have and still could at any time make dispersent banned in the US.

EPA routinely bans various chemicals.

The EPA simply "requested" (WTF is a govt agency doing making a REQUEST) that BP look at alternatives.

So the bigger question is why hasn't EPA banned the dispersent in question?

4. I don't know what more DOJ needs to start criminal proceedings & fine BP to the max
We have 51 days of uncontrolled oil spewing, fish & wildlife dead and dying, beaches, wetlands, private and public properties fouled for years, thousands out of work, witnesses and documents saying there were criminal decisions leading up to the blowout, and we can't hold them accountable yet? WTF? :puke:

5. Or else what?
Our spineless administration has no plan of action. There's nothing. Fuck BP, and fuck our government for showing us once again, just how fucking inept they are at serving the people or protecting the environment, OR ANYTHING! It's all about profits and greed. If we had any brains left as a country we'd be leaving our jobs and marching on Washington yesterday. Demanding immediate action and removing any obstructionist from office by their faces!
