Obama renews push for small-business plan
Source: LA Times

President Obama urged passage of his proposals to stimulate hiring by small businesses through tax credits and lending incentives, arguing that similar measures are partly responsible for the economic recovery over the last few months.

Small businesses have historically been responsible for two out of every three new jobs created in the U.S., Obama said Friday, and they must be a crucial part of the economic recovery.

"To replace the millions of jobs lost in the recession, we need to make sure small companies are able to open up, expand and add names to their payrolls," Obama told reporters gathered in the White House Rose Garden.

To stimulate the flow of credit, the president also wants the federal government to help underwrite loans through community banks and help fund state-based programs to promote lending to small firms and manufacturers.

1. He's gotta do something; we can't hire census workers
every month. There is some percentage of unemployed who are attempting to open their own business; any assistance would be greatly appreciated, I'm sure.

2. I hear this argument a lot but
I'm not so sure it's totally accurate. It seems a little simplistic and like peeing on a wildfire.

It seems like a better approach might be to attack the monopolistic policies that allow corporations to get so big they can force out the little guys. We throw our dollars at the small business but they can't compete so they go under. Maybe a small business doesn't need a handout so much as a little elbow room.

Then there's the absolute drive to reduce costs (that's you and me) and increase profits (that's the investors) of these large corporations. Maybe we should work more to level the playing field a bit. Oh, and maybe we might have them start kicking a bit into the kitty.

I think Obama should start listening to people other than the Harvard business school types. Maybe a union guy.

Oh and fire the asholes in his admin -- starting with rahm, timmy, and larry.

3. rahm, timmy, bernie, larry, moe, curly....
all doing a heck of a job. The new democratic party is neo-con all over again. The neo-cons have forged ahead into fascism. The new dems just follow in the slip stream filling the void left by former neo-cons. I almost expect to see Condi Rice offered a position. She would be a perfect fit.
