Somali football fans executed for watching matches
Source: Telegraph (UK)

Two Somali football fans have been killed by Islamic militants after being caught watching World Cup matches.

The deaths happened on Saturday near the capital Mogadishu when members of the Hizbul Islam group stormed a house where people were watching Nigeria play Argentina. A further 10 people were arrested by the group, which has imposed a strict version of Islam in the areas they control in southern and central Somalia.

The following night, another 30 people including a 15-year-old boy were arrested as the watched the Germany-Australia game in two private homes in the town of Afgoye.

A spokesman for the group, Sheikh Mohamed Abdi Aros, said the rest of Somalia should respect their ban on the World Cup – the first to be hosted in Africa – and focus instead on "pursuing holy jihad".

That would be the red card, I suppose.

5. I don't blame Bush for this,
although I'd like to. It's tempting.

This would probably have happened with or without our village idiot ex-prez. This extreme version/perversion of Islam has plenty of momentum, even without neo-con terror policies (although these policies have likely accelerated it). The legitimate Imams of the Earth must rise up against this - throw down a few fatwas and send enlightened religious leaders into these hell-holes to restore sanity.

This story and the one about those savages hanging a 7 year old boy in Afghanistan make me sick to my stomach - and somewhat fearful.

Freeing people from god-less communism was easy. Dealing with morons who are inspired by God - well, that'll be a lot harder.

18. Okay, don't hold your breath waiting for the "legitimate Imams"....
...to throw down a "few fatwas" to regulate this "perversion" of islam.

The problem is, it's not a perversion at all. The brutes who did this will absolutely have qu'ranic authority
to do so, some verses in the holy book or the hadith that support what they did.
Add to that the fact a muslim has to believe EVERY word of these "perfect" books in order to be a "real"
muslim and you see that what happened is not so much a "perversion" of islam.

Things like in the story are supported or demanded in the islamic doctrine. And I say again, unlike in
Christianity where your standard believer feels free to ignore, say, the old testament, in islam, there is
NO "pick and choose" of the verses.

(A muslim who follows the islamic doctrine a 100% isn't even allowed to listen to music, including any TV,
hence the taliban killing people for playing instruments for example)

The only question is if the average muslim really DOES follow the doctrine and goes all fundamentalist, which
many muslims do not.

But, please don't go defend the believe-system that would have them adhere to every word that's been left
by a egomaniacal, cruel, vindictive, paranoid, greedy pedophile (the "prophet" consumated his marriage with
a 9-year old girl and that's in their holy scriptures) and his followers.

Worth listening, Sam Harris on islam : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFFgD1dlDAE

Also very interesting on youtube : search "Idiot's guide to islam", everything they state there is straight out
of the islamic holy scriptures to prove their points...at times a little tedious but worth the education!

encouraging witch hunts in Africa against children and death penalties for gay people. There are extremists in many faiths.

...no wonder it is getting hard to defend and respect the Islamic religion (or any other) when these vile and bazaar belief systems cause so much evil.

11. Makes the pirates look good in comparison
At least if I had the choice of who would rule Somalia, having the pirates get respectable would be a non-brainer. It wouldn't be the first time.

12. These kind of idiots are the reason
I don't stress the tea baggers all that much. The make headlines and even do some damage. However their fundamentalist, hare brained philosophy will always self destruct.

14. That's where I want to send all the "small government" libertarians.
You want to live somewhere with no government to speak of? Somalia is about as close as it gets.

Guess what? It's a hellhole, full of thugs with guns whose religious dogma wants to make sure that no one experiences any pleasure, EVER.

Most of the libertarians I know are privileged straight males, so stories about rapes of women and killing of gays don't move them because, like most libertarians, they are empathy-deprived. Stories about thugs interfering with GUYS WATCHING SPORTS, though, that might hit them where they live.

22. When I was in New Paltz back in
the late 1960s, I was an acquaintance (the way athletes from different sports are in D III) with a great Somali soccer player, Abdi Yunis. He went on to become a mathematician, a dean at the Somali National University at Mogadishu. Later, I found that he was imprisoned and tortured for his work as a human rights activist, although he was eventually released. When I was young, I remember thinking what a great soccer player he was. I met him many years later after he had been released from prison at a friend's house. When I had the honor of meeting him years later, I came to realize what a truly great human being he was. This news report, for some reason, triggered this memory.
