Guards join service delivery protests in Durban

Striking World Cup stadium security guards on Wednesday joined the service delivery march attended by thousands of people in Durban.

South African riot police close off a street next to the Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban early morning June 14, 2010. Riot police clashed with hundreds of stadium security workers who demanded their wages after Germany's 4-0 victory over Australia at the 2010 FIFA soccer World Cup.

The march, which began at Botha Park, was attended by shack dwellers, street vendors and security guards.

Marchers complained about the lack of service delivery and high electricity prices. They demanded a "World Cup for all", saying the country should put people before profits.

They were expected to hand over a memorandum at the City Hall.

The march affected traffic in the area.
