Barack Obama takes shot at Bobby Jindal on issue of National Guard activation

Largely overlooked in President Barack Obama's Oval Office speech on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill last week was some implied criticism of Gov Bobby Jindal.

Obama noted that he has authorized the deployment of more than 17,000National Guard members along the coast, with the costs to be paid forby BP. "These servicemen and women are ready to help stop the oil fromcoming ashore, clean beaches, train response workers, or even help withprocessing claims - and I urge the governors in the affected states toactivate these troops as soon as possible," Obama said.

Jindal hasn'tcalled up anywhere close to Louisiana's allotment of 6,000 Guardmembers, though his spokeswoman insists he's called up the numbersrequested and needed to aid the clean-up efforts.

public aren't even aware of what he was talking about! Now if he would have said Bobby Jindal is criticizing the lack of action from the federal government but he hasn't even used the National Guard troops he is authorized to use. Maybe it would sink in.

5. Why is that?
GOP complicit media?

Now that a paper finally reports on the issue, that'll help with public awareness.

6. Other than a few on DU I doubt many Americans
notice or even care. People see Jindal on TV every night running around the marshes sucking up oil with a shop vac and blaming everything on Obama. Unless Faux or CNN makes an issue out of his comment 99.9% of Americans don't have a clue.

Sad isn't it?

Why do you think Americans wouldn't care to learn that nearly 5,000 members of Louisiana National Guard haven't been deployed?

They seem to care about what is happening in the Gulf.

make sure Americans knew about it.

8. Sort Of Like Jindal Publicly Attacking BP, But Quietly Opposing Oil Regulations?
Or the media's continuous refusal to identify Bobby Jindal as the sponsor of the 2006 DOER Act that expanded the deep ocean drilling that lead to the spill?

moritorium.

Question me this - If thousands are unemployed because of the moritoriam and they work in the oil industry, wouldn't it stand to reason that the states and BP would hire said oil workers to clean up and do other important work? Is it just me?

Oh and yes our National Guard are important, of course these are the same guys and gals that have been deployed over and over again.

What about the millions of Americans that are unemployed? Why not train these people to do the work but of course with protection etc? Why aren't the Republican governers suggesting this and acting on it?

It's not really that hard to come up with ideas except if thier (Repug) only mission is to bash the Democratic President.
