Former packer faces 27 years (Sholom Rubashkin, the former Agriprocessors Inc. manager)

DES MOINES (AP) — A former vice president of an Iowa kosher slaughterhouse will be sentenced to 27 years in prison and ordered to pay $31 million restitution for his conviction on financial fraud charges, a federal judge said Monday.

Chief U.S. District Court Judge Linda R. Reade released a memorandum outlining the sentence she will hand down for Sholom Rubashkin, the former Agriprocessors Inc. manager, Tuesday in federal court in Cedar Rapids.

A jury found Rubashkin guilty last fall on 86 federal financial fraud charges. Prosecutors had sought a 25-year sentence. Rubashkin’s attorney, Guy Cook, said the sentence is longer than necessary and plans to appeal.

“It’s unfair and excessive and is essentially a life sentence for a 51-year-old man,” Cook said.

I did a triple-take at first thinking it was a story about the Packer (capital P) that got in a little hot water a few weeks back.

But when I realized this was about the meat packer in Iowa, I clicked in anyway.

...........motherfuckers were actually SENT to prison instead of a $1,000 fine you know goddamn well that this shit would end in a fucking hurry. No, what we do is fill our jails up with the real criminals like all those caught with an ounce of weed. Makes perfect sense to me, clear out all the "undesirables" for all the wealthy pricks.

As a Hispanic I'd prefer all the hard working Immigrants work hard to improve the way of life in their home countries, especially Latin America, rather than come here and be exploited and abused. I'd also like to see all employers who hire "illegal" immigrants lose thier business license and go to jail. This doesn't mean we won't need immigrant labor what it means is employers will have to start paying decent wages to all thier employess 'cause Americans won't put up with shit work for shit pay. It''ll actually be inversely proportional, the shiitier the work the higher the pay.
This'll never happen of course because of business owner donations to politicians, but it's nice to dream.
