Joe Barton privately apologizes to GOPers for BP mess

The controversy over Joe Barton's apology to BP continues to simmer in Republican ranks, but judging by what just took place in a private meeting among GOPers, Barton will be keeping his perch on the Energy and Commerce Committee

Here's the latest: At a meeting with House Republicans in the Capitol, Barton stood up and apologized to the assembled for putting them in a bad spot, a source at the meeting tells me.

Barton told fellow Republicans that he'd screwed up, that what he said was dumb and not thought through, and that he didn't mean it to come out the way it did, the source adds.

Could it be that all is forgiven? Well, House GOP leader John Boehner told assembled Republicans that Barton had apologized, and that it's time to move on, the source continues.

10. How can you not know
That this is an incredibly stupid thing to say, especially since most Southern politicians are Republicans? I'm not so sure it wasn't a planned stunt, so the right-wing media could jump in and start calling him brave, honest, and bold.

4. What Barton said was just too close to home, becoming an audible manifestation of Republican
corporate supremacy brought to it's fruition.

The Republicans know their corporate supremacist ideology is wrong on moral, logical and Constitutional grounds, but they also know they can snow the average American into believing "We the People's" government is the true enemy and that the people can just trust in the benevolence of corporate rule without question.

Barton's apology to BP after BP wiped out much if not all of an entire region and it's rich cultural way of life, while tens of millions of Americans are reeling from this economic devastation, while great numbers of sea life will die and some species will undoubtedly go extinct, while a vast body of water is poisoned as the Earth bleeds is the curtain removed, sociopathic version of corporatism.

Barton had to apologize to the Republicans for costing them politically by exposing the real face of their ideology.

Thanks for the thread, kpete.

The GOP is the lapdog for the energy industry.

Say it is so, Joe.

6. of course he did.
he doesn't want to lose what little power he's got right now, nor does he want to lose the millions in campaign donations that he's whoring himself for to get re-elected. The fact that the GOP is rallying around him tells me that they all are also on the take from big oil; and their big oil pimps must have b-slapped them over the weekend and told them to close ranks around their boy or else they're pulling the money out of their campaigns.

however, something also tells me that the Dems are going to squander this gift that was tossed into their laps. It'll be up to the progressives to launch the broadsides to take down the GOP over this.

Between this and steele humiliating himself with his own blatant stupidity--I can't see how those people think they can win anything.
