CIA defends Blackwater contract worth $100m
Source: BBC News

The head of CIA has defended awarding a large contract to the controversial security company formerly known as Blackwater.

The director of the CIA, Leon Penatta, said the company's bid was US $26m less than its nearest rival.

The contract, worth $100m, is to provide security at US consulates in the cities of Herat and Mazar-e-Sharif.

Blackwater guards allegedly opened fire on unarmed civilians in Baghdad in 2007 killing 17 people.

5. What happened to the marine security details that used to be a fixture at all consulates?

I get the whole money laundering scheme where taxpayer funds get paid to "private contractors" who then funnel it back as "campaign contributions." Is obama in on that too?

9. Why do you always try to instill fear in progressives?
Seriously, so many of your posts warn of the dire consequences awaiting
anybody who challenges the power structure.

For whom are you doing that?

13. Surely
the Senate will not have to vote on this is paltry
1.000.000.00 if it is not paid for Up Front. OH, I forgot,
this is for the War on Terror, not on helping the average guy
on the street keep his house, feed his family, pay his bills.
Mr. Hatch thinks unemployment benefits buy drugs. I would
suggest to Mr. Hatch that if nothing else the unemployment
benefits keeps local economies afloat, without which they
would be in deep do=do. I would also suggest the Mr. Hatch
disclose all of the holdings in his portfolio and indicate to
us which ones are multinational corporations that have shipped
The Jobs of the folks at home overseas. Might there be a
conflict of interest in what he says and what he does????

14. No wonder we changed its
name from Department of War (realistic) to Department of Defense (fantasy).
Now, they spend most of their time defending the indefensible in both wars and contracts.
