Judges quash UK troops human rights ruling

The UK government has won its appeal against a ruling that troops must be protected by the Human Rights Act at all times.

Last year, the Court of Appeal upheld a decision that the act applied to all UK troops, even on the battlefield.

The case relates to Pte Jason Smith, who died of heatstroke in Iraq in 2003.

The President of the Supreme Court, Lord Phillips, said service personnel fighting abroad would not necessarily be covered by human rights law.

Not sure what would happen here as it affects the forces of all other EU countries too.
