Tony Blair wins 2010 Liberty Medal award for work on peace
Source: The Guardian

Tony Blair, in his inevitable career progression from world leader to elder statesman, picks up another award, this time the 2010 Liberty Medal, a prize given annually by the National Constitution Centre in Philadelphia.

In announcing the $100,000 prize, Philadelphia's mayor Michael Nutter praised Blair's "relentless pursuit of a long-elusive peace in Northern Ireland as British prime minister and his dedication to the Middle East peace process".
...
Blair's peace efforts in the Middle East presumably don't encompass his support for the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. Philadelphia blogger Duncan Black noted: "I guess Tony Blair won this for his success in helping to liberate souls from the earthly existence."

Indeed, the press release goes on for many paragraphs, without mentioning Iraq in any form. Maybe it should be renamed the Collective Amnesia Medal, or the Basil Fawlty Medal ("whatever you do, don't mention the war!").

I'm so pleased to see that to give Blair a medal for 'liberty', you must be a Nutter, though.

16. Past medal winners include
1997 CNN International

2000 Dr. James Watson and Dr. Francis Crick, co-discoverers of the structure of DNA (joint prize)
Great discovery. But a prize from an organization dedicated to increasing public understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the ideas and values it represents?

2002 Colin Powell, U.S. Secretary of State

2003 Sandra Day O'Connor, Associate Justice, U.S. Supreme Court

2004 Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan

2006 George H.W. Bush and William J. Clinton, former U.S. Presidents (joint prize)

2009 Steven Spielberg

37. What an interesting list of "winners"?!
> 2002 Colin Powell, U.S. Secretary of State
> 2003 Sandra Day O'Connor, Associate Justice, U.S. Supreme Court
> 2004 Hamid Karzai, President of Afghanistan
> 2006 George H.W. Bush and William J. Clinton, former U.S. Presidents (joint prize)

In this respect, Blair fits right in as he is a treacherous, two-faced
murdering SOB who was the primary enabler of G.W.Bush *outside* the USA.

Annenberg Foundation who built and run The National Constitution Center. They also came up with factcheck.org whic is incredibly sad and ironic. Considering the amount of philanthropy work they do in the world one would have to ask "what the fuck were they thinking" giving this award to Blair who lied us into a war that cost a half a million or more lives? The Annenberg Foundation should be ashamed.
