U.S. Rep. Melancon: Louisiana deserves better
Source: Monroe (La.) News Star

U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon has dubbed his current series of campaign stops in his attempt to unseat incumbent U.S. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., as the "Louisiana First" tour.

But it's the Napoleonville Democrat's favored tagline — "Louisiana deserves better" — that's become the central theme of his campaign and his attempt to contrast himself with Vitter.

The persistent drip of news in recent weeks surrounding the resignation and criminal history of a longtime Vitter aide has been chum in the water for Melancon and the state Democratic Party, who have seized on the story to portray Vitter as dishonest and avoiding questions.

Vitter aide Brent Furer, who in 2008 pleaded guilty to holding his girlfriend at knifepoint in an apartment and stabbing her in the hand, was disciplined with paid leave by Vitter but kept on staff in the wake of the plea.

1. He will lose by double digits
We need to start hearing more about Vitter's infidelity and dishonoring his marriage vows rather than this "I respectfully disagree with my opponent" crap.

Which one are you referring to? Realistically, I think you're referring to Melancon. I'm not intending to be snarky or disrespectful, as I lived in Louisiana for 35 years. Even "voted for the crook" Edwin Edwards when David Duke ran against him.....

I wish somehow, some way, the folks in Louisiana would turn the political situation around down there, after Katrina, now BP and all. The least they could do would be to vote out "Diaper Dave."

3. Yeah, seriously...
How the hell is Vitter's whore-mongering somehow "out of bounds"? If the shoe were on the other foot, the repugs would be looking for every opportunity to use it. So sick of Democrats coming to gunfights with butter knives, this is how we will lose the congress this fall...

4. The young guy subbing for Rachel did a great story about this
tonight. Sorry, I didn't catch his name, but his comments were extremely scathing toward Vitter. It was kinda awesome to listen to in that the commentator was extremely outraged. Maybe the story will get out there and make a difference in the election and Vitter will go down to defeat. (Sad, though, but I think that pigs will fly first).

6. Thanks a lot.
I know I've seen him several times on MSNBC and like him a great deal, just never seem to remember his name.
