US Will Announce New Drilling Moratorium Soon

The Obama administration promised on Friday it would announce a new deepwater oil drilling moratorium shortly, and a U.S. company became the first to pull a rig out of the Gulf of Mexico because of uncertainty surrounding the ban.

Diamond Offshore Drillings said it was moving its Ocean Endeavor rig to Egypt from the Gulf, where deepwater drilling has been halted because of the 81-day-old BP oil spill.

A federal court in New Orleans on Thursday refused to reinstate the six-month ban on drilling below 500 feet , which the Obama administration imposed after BP's Macondo undersea well blew out on April 20.

But uncertainty over the situation—and the administration's plans to impose a new moratorium while it investigates the causes of the explosion that triggered the well blowout -- are keeping the drilling rigs shut.

egregious, illegal, felonious, criminal or the like we call an "investigation". Let's simplify thing a bit, why not go out and investigate rigs that HAVE NOT blown out. Why not research the protocols of companies who have NO BLOWOUTS. Again I say, if Nixon, Reagan, or any other high powered individual/corporation shot someone on main street in full view of 1000 people you would STILL need an investigation.

We KNOW they were using seawater instead of mud at the end, we KNOW they were way behind and overbudget, we KNOW there were severe arguments between BP and Transocean regarding steps to be taken, we KNOW the well was giving fits months before it let go and we KNOW the engines topside ran away and started the whole disaster from the getgo.

What we don't know is why the engines don't have a reliable snuffing mechanism for when the do run away, and what we don't know is why MMS was allowed to have drug parties with top oil industry officials. Seems pretty simple to me, enforce the use of acoutstically triggered BOP's, dump the drug parties.

Would seem to me you may need BOP's considerably larger than previously used to date and probably not yet in current manufacture as a result.

As long as these foreign rigs are safety-checked in the countries they're registered in, it will be pretty damn hard to tell what's what. For all we know, the DH was never checked. We have to take their word for the document they show the Coast Guard---that's all we have. :puke:
