Spokesperson Powell Caesar tells Fox 8 News Pekar, 70, was discovered by his wife, Joyce, shortly before 1:00 a.m. The coroner's office says it does not appear that foul play or trauma were involved in Pekar's death.

The Cleveland born artist and writer was best known for his autobiographical American Splendor series.

The series inspired a 2003, critically acclaimed film starting actor Paul Giamatti.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending.

I'm pretty bummed about this. What a great perspective on American life this man had.

17. Crumb passed the job on to Robert Armstrong when he tired of Pekar
Armstrong's work was seamless as the two are close, long-time friends, former neighbors, and draw in a very similar, yet overlapping styles. Like Crumb, Robert grew weary of working with Pekar in short order.

De mortuis nil nisi bonum dicendum est. aside, Harvey Pekar was an odd duck.

18. I don't know why, but I see him continuing on in the afterlife, doing the same thing
complaining about everything, trying to find an artist to draw his new comic "Ethereal Splendor."

Yeah, I don't think death can stop this man.

Someone should do a comic about Harvey's afterlife.

19. Oh no!
R.I.P. and godspeed to Mr. Pekar.

I have to contact some people. I'm working on a cancer awareness event in my hometown and Mr. Pekar was coming to speak at it. Jeez, this stinks. He was an awesome guy.
