Japan resists Fujimori extradition
Japan signalled Thursday that it would reject a formal request by Peruvian authorities for the extradition of Alberto Fujimori because the disgraced former Peruvian president is now a Japanese citizen.

Peruvian officials want Mr. Fujimori, who fled the South American nation almost three years ago, to face murder charges for the death-squad slayings of suspected rebels, as well as embezzlement and treason allegations. But the extradition request applies only to the murder charges.

Japan has resisted pressure to hand over Mr. Fujimori, saying it cannot deport a citizen to a country with which it shares no extradition treaty. Peru has no such agreement with Japan.

After Peru's ambassador to Japan, Luis J. Macchiavello, submitted the three-volume, 700-page extradition request to the Foreign Ministry on Thursday morning, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuo Fukuda indicated that Tokyo's stance would not change.

No Bush Crime Family assets in Peru so we'll forget about any justice.
