DOJ: No charges for Bush-era US attorney firings
Source: AP

In 2008, the Justice Department assigned Nora Dannehy, a career prosecutor from Connecticut with a history of rooting out government wrongdoing, to investigate the firings.

In particular, she looked into whether the firing of New Mexico U.S. attorney David Iglesias and whether then-Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., or others should be prosecuted for his dismissal.

"Evidence did not demonstrate that any prosecutable criminal offense was committed with regard to the removal of David Iglesias," the Justice Department said in a letter to lawmakers Wednesday. "The investigative team also determined that the evidence did not warrant expanding the scope of the investigation beyond the removal of Iglesias."

Prosecutors also said there was insufficient evidence to charge someone with lying to Congress or investigators.

1. Plus, Bush didn't personally fire them anyway!
Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 03:38 PM by superduperfarleft
It was some underling in his administration, so he has no control over it! I'm sick of people expecting Bush to "micromanage" such a big government! He has absolutely no responsibility for the actions of the people whom he appointed!

Oh, shit, sorry, I thought I was in one of the Sherrod Brown threads.

I just posted on another page that the President must have a sign on his desk either reading : 'Buck? What buck?'

or

'The buck gets passed right back down'

edit: But I'm not surprised. Seems like everyone from that criminal administration has gotten away scot-free

5. It's no longer a crime to use the DOJ
for political reasons?

I'll be interested to hear what Iglesias has to say about this decision.

And why did they not look into the Carol Lam case?

Forget I asked, no point in caring really. I'm sure the apologists will be here in a minute to tell us why we need to 'move forward', 'moles in the DOJ' etc etc!

8. wiki on the attorney firings
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dismissal_of_U.S._attorneys_controversy

which led to issues about the White House's email purge to avoid oversight... and in seeming violation of the Presidential Records Act. (which allowed the Bush administration to hide information about the Valerie Plame CIA op outing as retaliation for Joe Wilson telling the truth about the Bush administration lies about the Iraq War.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_White_House_e-mail_controversy

Monica Goodling, scumbag personified, and graduate of Messiah "College" and Pat Robertson's bogus Regents "university" led the assault against those U.S. atts. who refused to cover up for republicans and launch smear campaigns against democrats under the tutelage of ratfucker Kkkarl Rove.

In testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, Goodling stated that she "crossed a line" which is xtian fascist talk for "I broke the law and I don't give a fuck because I'm a christian fascist, so fuck you, America." (she didn't use those words - but those were her actions - oh, and she resigned because she was such a political WHORE that she couldn't continue her job w/o continued scrutiny into her WHORISH ways.)

12. more on the illegal actions of political WHORE Monica Goodling
via the wiki link, above:

On July 28, 2008, a Justice Department report concluded that Goodling had violated federal law and Justice Department policy by discriminating against job applicants who weren't Republican or conservative loyalists. "Goodling improperly subjected candidates for certain career positions to the same politically based evaluation she used on candidates for political positions," the report concluded. In one instance, Justice investigators found, Goodling initially objected to hiring an assistant prosecutor in Washington because "judging from his resume, he appeared to be a liberal Democrat type." In another, she rejected an experienced terror prosecutor to work on counterterror issues at a Justice Department headquarters office "because of his wife's political affiliations,". In another case, colleagues said that Goodling blocked the appointment of a female prosecutor in Washington because she "believed the lawyer was involved in a lesbian relationship with her supervisor", according to the report."There was no romantic relationship," said Lisa Banks<26>, the attorney for Leslie Hagen, "but the rumors were pernicious and grew legs, and it cost her the job."<27> Goodling may also face a criminal investigation into her conduct.<28> Hagen has since been rehired to her old job.<29>

Goodling was such a whore she discriminated against people because she THOUGHT they were gay - without anything to substantiate this. That makes her not just a whore just a FASCIST CHRISTIAN WHORE.

48. Another demerit! I wonder if this administration realizes they are PROMOTING armed rebellion!
Since they are making a lot of Americans feel out there that there really is no hope out there with the absolute GUTLESSNESS of this administration to do ANYTHING for the people that voted them in office.

This hopelessness, if not answered soon with SOME sort of responsible representation, will ultimately lead to armed insurrection when people feel helpless enough. I don't think that will necessarily be successful, but in that situation, I think everyone really loses. Is THAT what they want? Obama, it is time to show some GUTS!!!

51. The firing of Iglesias was ALMOST beside the point. What about
using political and religious litmus tests to HIRE for civil service positions.

What about presentations to government departments on how to use their government positions to help re-elect Bush, in blatant violation of the Hatch Act?

What about then SENATOR Domenici's demanding Iglesias file a frivolous lawsuit against a Democrat who was running against Domenici's "protege," saying he (Domenici) didn't care if Iglesias dropped it after the election was over?

Most of all, what about the future of the rule of law in this country? It's what we were founded on, for pity sake.

I'm sure there will be some people who will be shocked, I say, totally shocked when President Jeb Bush or President Palin in 2013 or 2017 or whenever decides to hire Karl Rove or Alberto Gonzales into their administration. How could they hire such criminals?

This is how. Right here, right now. Without justice, these thugs who should rightly be branded as disgraced criminals and thrown in jail remain merely controversial former government officials roaming free biding their time. Just like the Iran-Contra figures were in 1993 before their return in 2001.
