Richard Lugar Becomes Second Republican To Endorse Elena Kagan
Edited on Wed Jul-21-10 05:02 PM by Tx4obama
Source: Huffington Post

Though her nomination to the Supreme Court now seems fairly secure, Elena Kagan and -- by extension -- the White House scored another victory on Wednesday when a second Senate Republican announced his support.

Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), a key administration ally (though traditionally on foreign policy issues) issued the following statement in support of Kagan's confirmation.

"I have carefully followed the testimony of Solicitor General Elena Kagan before the Senate Judiciary Committee, the questions of committee members, and the debate and comments about her nomination, both during the public hearings and the mark-up of her nomination in committee. I have also carefully reviewed recommendations from Indiana constituents on her nomination. I have concluded that Solicitor General Elena Kagan is clearly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and that she has demonstrated a comprehensive knowledge of court history and decisions. I believe that she has had a distinguished career in both education and public service and is well regarded by the legal community and her peers. I will vote to confirm Solicitor General Elena Kagan's nomination to serve as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States."

2. $20 says Loogie does not run in 2012
Most of Sonia Sotomayor's support from the Enemy Party came from Senators who were not running for re-election, as well as the two girls from Maine.

3. Lugar is back from his coma?

You know, he's been so quiet the last two years, I figured he wasn't around any more.

Hard to believe he's been marching in lockstep with the loon brigade.

6. It's hard to believe Lindsey Graham and Dick Lugar
represent the moderate wing of the Republican caucus in the Senate. Back when they started, they were part of the conservative wing. Of course, they have not changed much, but the GOP has.

7. Lovely.
About Lugar: I'll never forget how fast his office answered my letter on the Chemical Weapons Convention -- and I'm not even a Hoosier. There was something like a 48 turn-around time. Miss Manners doesn't even write thank-you notes that fast.

Anyway, I am glad to hear he is planning to support Elena Kagan. He might even draw a few more 'cans along with him.

8. He must be happy about Kagan,he was smiling.Oh,wait, he's always smiling.
He'd be smiling if he got shot in the knee. He'd be smiling if he had terminal gas pains.Probably got his permanent smile when he realized he can stuff his refrigerator, mattress, walls etc. with bribe money while spending as much as he can think of ways to,and no cops ever come for him, because he's in The Club.

Olympia Snowe To Vote For Elena Kagan, Raising GOP Senator Count To Four

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe says she plans to vote to confirm Elena Kagan as a Supreme Court justice.

The Maine lawmaker's announcement makes her the fourth Republican to break with her party to back President Barack Obama's high court nominee.

In a statement, Snowe says Kagan has met her standards for a justice with her strong intellect, respect for the rule of law and understanding of the Supreme Court's important but limited role.

She also says endorsements from conservative lawyers show that Kagan has a reputation for a sound judicial temperament.
