BP admits it 'Photoshopped' official images as oil spill 'cut and paste' row escalates
BP has ordered staff to stop manipulating photographs of its Gulf of Mexico oil spill response, as the row over its public relations campaign intensifies.

BP admitted on Thursday that it “Photoshopped” some of its official images that were posted on its website and vowed to stop the embarrassing practice.

For the second time in two days, the company was identified to have doctored images posted on its official website that were supposed to show how it was responding to the oil crisis in America.

In the latest image, a photo taken inside a company helicopter appeared to show it flying off the coast near the damaged Deepwater Horizon rig.

But it was later shown to be faked after internet bloggers identified several problems with the poorly produced image that contradicted the appearance that it was flying.

4. I've lost track of how many lies they've told since this started.
does anyone have a count???? I mean, if the phrase, "how can you tell they're lying?.....they're lips are moving." ever applied to ANYONE, it's BP. At every single point they have been found to be liars, and yet, they are allowed to maintain complete control over this Charlie Foxtrot.

They should be fined/penalized/imprisoned for their constant lying.

7 year ban, MY ASS...they should be banned PERMANENTLY from drilling ANYTHING inside the US.

8. It's amazing, isn't it?
Apparently, the idea of recordable media is just too much for them to understand.
Jon Stewart is a master at pointing this out.

9. Well, what can they expect when they hire Cheney's former press secretary...
to head their PR department, be their "spokesperson". Stupid is an understatement when it comes to BP's PR department and I have NO doubt they paid big bucks for this shit.

10. Not all Photoshop is bad
I've Photoshopped images for a variety of print/web purposes, such as: removing extraneous body parts entering the frame; removing wall decor that appears to protrude from someone's head; enhanced color/contrast to ensure presentation screens are legible, or that dark areas of a room are brighter so people's faces can be seen better; even copied/pasted someone's eyes from a different photo to a group picture where her eyes were closed. But these are non-substantive changes that don't challenge the goings-on in the photo (as described in the photo's caption). However, I've never done (nor been asked to do) anything such as faking up a scenario and having a caption identify it as the real thing.

So I won't fault BP for color/contrast enhancements of their board meeting pictures, but the chopper was an outright falsehood. Even if there really were helicopters just like that flying around the rig just like that, the caption shouldn't have identified that as an actual image from such an event.
