Obama says he still supports climate legislation
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON – Despite setbacks on Capitol Hill, President Barack Obama said Monday he still supports the need for broad climate legislation.

Speaking in the Rose Garden following a bipartisan meeting of congressional leaders, Obama said the energy bill making its way through Congress now is "an important step in the right direction." But, he said, "I want to emphasize that it's only the first step." He pledged to keep pushing for passage of a comprehensive energy policy overhaul that addresses climate change.

"Our current energy policy is unsustainable," Obama said.

Last week, Senate Democrats abandoned plans for a sweeping measure that would cap greenhouse gases blamed for global warming. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said no Republican senators were willing to vote for the bill, leaving Democrats shy of the 60 votes needed to overcome GOP delaying tactics.

3. Here's the trick. The trump card is the EPA threatening to regulate CO2.
Which means climate change won't happen this year, but is much more likely to happen next year, because that's when the EPA threatened to start regulating CO2.

That means the Senate's going to have to choose between writing their own CO2 regulation, or defaulting to the EPA's idea of CO2 regulation, which will probably be a lot more strict than the Senate or the lobbyists would like.

Let's hope that Obama does the right thing and threatens to veto anything that's too watered down.

4. I read that too. Businesses think they'll be better off with Congress instead of the EPA writing
the rules. As it stands now, they'll be getting the EPA.
