Poll shows opposition to health care overhaul declining
Source: Washington Post

Opposition to the landmark health care overhaul declined over the past month, to 35 percent from 41 percent, according to the latest results of a tracking poll, reported Thursday.

Fifty percent of the public held a favorable view of the law, up slightly from 48 percent a month ago, while 14 percent expressed no opinion about the measure, according to the poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The approval level was the highest for the legislation since it was enacted in March, after a divisive year-long debate. In April, the poll found 46 percent in favor and 40 percent opposed.

Though the legislative battle is over, the political tug-of-war continues. Democrats and Republicans have been fighting to shape public opinion on the issue in hopes of influencing the fall elections.

Here is another poll that will be ignored by Fox News, thus ignored by most cable and network news, because it does not fit in with the narrative that Americans are demanding a return to Bush era economic policies and want to preserve the Bush tax cuts to the rich.

1. Not only that
The loudest opponents have had time to realise that the sky has not fallen, the Gods have not wreaked havoc on humanity and there is not a communist under every bed.

Acceptance comes slowly.

2. I don't think that the narrative is that people want to return to Bush policies
I think it's just anti-Obama policies. I haven't heard much discussion or energy around what people do want.

12. I'm thinking more from the conservative angle.
Clearly people on the left Obama want something more than he and the democratic controlled congress have been able to deliver.

I don't think that conservatives and independents who are opposed to Obama really know what they want.

3. Maybe it's declining because it didn't do anything?
Why oppose a law that doesn't change a thing?

6. If I lost my job, I would be able to buy health insurance for cheap
Because the public would subsidize it. That is not "nothing".

8. Sure it would be cheap. That's because it would have a high deductible
--making it useless in the event of actual illness.

10. No
I can buy cheap insurance without a "high" deductible right now. I would be able to buy a policy with a $500/year deductible for a quarter of the price I am paying right now (if I had the public subsidy).

This could make "early retirement" practical for me.

Others shouldn't be able to, either. I've heard that one many times. Very Christian of you.

18. How nice to cheer for all the people left out of so called "reform"
Reduce the number of the fucked over, and it becomes ever easier to ignore the remainder.

5. 50% plus a tiny bit more will suffice for midterms so we can expect
Republicans to double down, or go nuts, or both.

7. Some of the oppostion was Democrats who really wanted single payer
or other more effective policy.

I think that the gop is going to "run" on the issue of continuing the bush* tax cuts.

9. Because nothing has changed. Most peoples' opinions about their insurance--
--are worth about as much as their opinions on whether their fire extinguishers are any good, that is to say not much.

11. kids on policy is great
With no jobs out there, your kids can stay on your policy while they look or go to grad school. That's worth a lot to many people.

16. Like me, people who need it are getting help.
I have Medicare Part D for prescription coverage. I have Muscular Dystrophy and advanced Heart Disease, so naturally, I take alot of prescription drugs. (11 pills every morning). Until this year, I fell into the infamous "donut hole" in April, leaving me with no coverage for the rest of the year. Because of President Obama's Healthcare Reform Act, I was able to apply for assistance with my meds because of income and need. Now I have no donut hole and my premiums are much lower. I pay no more than $8.00 for any prescription. It saved my life.
Some people are less than happy about this and accuse me of taking money out of their pockets. My only question to them is; "Would you like to trade places with me"?
