Tea-Party blogger Pamela Geller sues MTA over requests for anti-mosque ad changes

A group opposed to the planned mosque near the World Trade Center sued the MTA, saying the agency asked for too many modifications to its bus ad.

The American Freedom Defense Initiative, led by Tea Party blogger Pamela Geller, yesterday filed a federal lawsuit alleging the Metropolitan Transportation Authority violated its constitutional right to free speech by demanding the changes.

The original ad featured a plane heading toward the burning twin towers. It also depicted a building with the crescent moon and star on the facade, according to the lawsuit. "Sept 11, 2001 WTC Jihad Attack ... Sept. 11, 2011 WTC Mega Mosque," the ad's text says, asking the question, "Why There?"

The group said it was forced to delete the plane and flames, according to the lawsuit. Spokesman Aaron Donovan said no decision has been made on the proposed ad, which the MTA had only seen yesterday afternoon.
