Fingerprint sharing led to deportation of 47,000
Source: AP

WASHINGTON – Records show that about 47,000 people have been removed or deported from the U.S. after the Homeland Security Department sifted through 3 million sets of fingerprints taken from bookings at local jails.

About one-quarter of those kicked out of the country did not have criminal records, according to government data obtained by immigration advocacy groups that have filed a lawsuit. The groups plan to release the data Tuesday and provided early copies to The Associated Press.

As issue is a fingerprint-sharing program known as Secure Communities that the government says is focused on getting rid of the "worst of the worst" criminal immigrants from the U.S.

Immigration advocates say that the government instead spends too much time on lower-level criminals or non-criminals.

1. Easy solution
Convict them in-absentia of falsifying government documents.

And they state that one quarter of them didn't have a criminal record. The linked article does not make it clear exactly where these fingerprints that were matched came from, what document? Or was it that the person gave a fake name when they were arrested but their fingerprints were matched with their real identity - thus they were deported. Isn't giving a fake name to the police a crime?

How about you try to do that when a cop stops you for speeding. Just see how many years in jail you get. It's a crime all by itself. And they are here illegally, also a crime. Or are we so used to corporate thieves and crooked politicians committing crimes that it's no longer something to be punished for.

6. I want laws that are equally applied to all
... and I'm the minuteman psycho?

Hey, ReadMoreOften, maybe you should Read More Often about the laws of our country. Either we all follow them or we toss them out the window and it's every man for himself, wild west style. I'd prefer that the laws are followed by all.

Your comment seems to expose a belief that laws should be followed by our citizens who are losing their homes for lack of jobs, but not by those who criminally enter this country without permission and take jobs from Americans. This is a hot button issue for those of us in the border states. Your ignorance of the economic pain caused by uncontrolled millions of cheap labor streaming across the border shows that you do not read enough!

Read up on the history of illegal immigration from the south. Who started it all? Ronnie Raygun and his corporate backers who wanted to kill off the unions and to "keep the black man in the slums" and a side benefit of systematically depressing wages for all Americans. So, how about you read up on what happened to labor unions from 1980 till now? How about you read up on the unemployment rates of African Americans? How about you read up on the stagnant wages of the working people of this nation? Then how about you read up on how the wealthy have fared during this same period of stagnant wages for the rest of us?

Your callousness almost matches your ignorance on this issue. Read a lot more often, why not?

4. Very poorly written article.
Almost sounds like a lot of these were people who did not show up to their original criminal court date or immigration hearing.

5. Does this mean that if your prints are not on file, you must be illegal?
