4 pulled to safety after plane lands on Lake Erie
Source: News Channel 5 (Cleveland)

PUT-IN-BAY, Ohio - A ferry boat helped rescue four people from a plane that landed on Lake Erie Friday morning near Put-In-Bay.

The pilot of plane told emergency crews that the engine on his plane quit running when he was coming in for a landing at the island, so he retracted the landing gear and landed on the water about 100 years from a boat dock.

The pilot and his passengers, one man and two women, were all from Canton, Michigan, officials said at the scene. Witnesses said none of them appeared to be injured, except one woman who had some scratches on her leg.

As the plane was making an emergency landing on the water, a Miller Ferry boat with 40-50 people on board was getting ready to pull out from the dock nearby. The ferry captain immediately steered his boat toward the plane and helped pull the four people to safety.

7. It's one big party!
I went there a couple of years ago. With my sister who is a buyer for an automotive supplier. We attended an event at the airport to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of her suppliers. Huge upscale event. There were acrobatic planes that we could go up in, food and drink galore and so many trinkets given away that we left with a bag full of stuff. Not expensive stuff, things like wooden model airplanes, little Styrofoam pop guns, stuff like that. After the event we went into town for more partying in the evening. The toys were great for striking up conversations with the people. Lots of happy people drinking and partying all night long. They put us up in a gorgeous hotel with jacuzzi and fireplaces in every suite. We were invited to stay the night on a boat of a couple of people we met and she wanted to. However, I didn't think it would be a safe thing to do. But we just had a blast.

I hope those people's planned good time wasn't ruined by their experience. What a way to start a great party weekend! I'll never forget my experience. I'll bet they won't either.

18. A small drinking island with a big fishing problem
Edited on Sun Aug-15-10 07:33 PM by 704wipes
is how they advertise it on t-shirts.

There is a winery to tour, & a nice cave tour.
There's that big monument to Farragut or Perry -can't remember which.
Some 1812 naval battle was fought near-by.

That smaller island off to the left in the pic? I was told it has caves on it, and
was once owned by Jay Cooke. Probably still full of gold he bilked from the treasury
during the civil war?

Combine a day to it with a another to visit Cedar Point, world's best roller coaster park near by...

16. on or in? Did Erie freeze over, or something?
journalism has really fallen off in the US, hasn't it? Must be that quirky, mind-deadening Sarah Syndrome.
