Some businesses are backing out of the Tea Party Exchange program (Dayton, OH)

The Tea Party Exchange is designed to link conservative consumers and businesses, which then donate to a Tea Party organization 5 percent of sales made to those customers who show a TPX-Great American card. The businesses pay Hutchinson at least $150 annually to participate. But backlash from customers is causing companies to withdraw. Democratic Congressional candidate Joe Roberts is encouraging people to call the businesses to let them know if they are uncomfortable with the their participation in the program.

On Monday owners of Reiber Cleaner and HouseMaster Home Inspections and Radon Testing said they asked Hutchinson to remove their names from his website, leaving just over two dozen member companies.

“I’m not into politics a whole lot,” said Ballachino, who said she was not familiar with the Tea Party when Hutchinson convinced her to participate. “He stated you could get more business, everybody in this group will come to you.”

Since she paid Hutchinson $150 on July 1 she has had a customer use the TPX card just twice — and both times it was Hutchinson. Instead of gaining customers Ballachino said she has been overwhelmed with the negative response.

“I’ve had probably 60 to 80 people come to me and say they aren’t going to come to me anymore,” said Patti Ballachino, owner of Reiber Cleaners, a family-owned business in Kettering.

What in the world happened to due diligence in this world?

If you owned a business and I came in promising a huge increase in sales if you bought this sticker for $100 and put it on your window and didn't think twice and the sticker was a symbol for, say, a skinhead group, or a right-to-life group or whatever form of group you would normally oppose if you knew what it was, why wouldn't you bother taking 30 seconds to put forth the slightest bit of effort to find out what I was supporting?

and CSX removed the ten commandments from a local train station owned by them after i asked...

Make money, pay your employees. Then your employees can go about having their own private political views - preferably outside of the workplace.

I see that RE/MAX apparently told their teabagging realtor to get the company's name off the list.

I wonder what the respective automakers' corporate or North America headquarters would think of "Evans BMW, Volvo, Volkswagen" politicizing their brands.

The irony of a teabagger flogging vehicles from socialist countries is almost as delicious as Hutchinson's outsourcing his website development to an Indian company instead of hiring local labor. I'm sure he could even find a few fellow travelers among the hordes of unemployed developers.

I am a very loyal customer, and absolutely love the car. I just asked VW USA the very question you asked in your post.

They'll be wonderful artifacts for the shelf with the pet rock, the mood ring, the tamagotchi and the Pokemon cards. It'll also be a nice reminder of what conservatives once thought was so vitally important. Another shelf, maybe? One with saying the Pledge of Allegiance every day, heavy emphasis on the words "under God." Oh, and a flag lapel pin. A "support the troops" bumper sticker.

I had thought this was going on in other cities and states at the same time. If it was a test, I'm glad it failed. :)
