BRIEF: Whirlpool To Lay Off Workers In Fort Smith (jobs to Mexico)
Source: Times Record

A Whirlpool official has confirmed its Fort Smith plant will see layoffs in October and November.

A news release from the company did not include how many workers will be laid off.

In the release, Jill Saletta, director of external communications at Whirlpool, states: "Plant management has confirmed that they anticipate some layoffs to take place in October and November.

"The October layoffs are due to the end of production of counter-depth refrigerators at the plant, which we announced to employees at the end of 2009. November layoffs are anticipated due to softening of demand, which is typical at this time of year."

5. Sears already defers any problems with their appliances to the
Mexican delivery company they work with. I know. Been there, done that and seen how shitty it was to resolve a problem.

13. I need a dryer.
And it won't be a Whirlpool. An up-post indicates GE is in Kentucky, so I'll check out their line.

14. There should be STIFF PENALTIES...
for companies who do this. Ah, but that would hurt business, and we can never ever EVER do anything to hurt business. After all, business is GOD.

16. In theory, I agree with you.
In practice, I am afraid we will simply see companies relocate their entire headquarters if this is tried.

15. All of my appliances are Bosch and LG.
The American appliances that I wanted just didn't live up in quality. It's so hard to find a decent American made appliance these days. I have much better luck with cars and tools.

17. that's so funny, because our LG doesn't live up to the quality
that last washing machine I had before this new one lasted well over ten years. The new one probably won't make it to five or six. It's already had problems, as well as the stove-both from Sears.

18. I never buy from Sears anymore.
Their service is just new levels of terrible every year. My LG fridge has had no problems yet, but who knows what the future holds :).
